Carolina Handling opens new $23 million facility in South Carolina

October 7, 2025 by David Edwards

Carolina Handling, the exclusive Raymond Solutions and Support Center for South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Florida’s central time zone, has opened its new 264,544-square-foot facility in Pickens County, South Carolina.

Located at 285 Speedway Boulevard in Easley in the new Speedway Business & Technology Park, the new building consolidates the Upstate operations of the Charlotte, NC-based intralogistics company. It combines the warehouse and office space from four facilities in the Upstate region of South Carolina under one roof.

Carolina Handling was the first tenant at Speedway Business & Technology Park, which is being developed by RealtyLink, and broke ground on the facility in 2024. The $23.2 million investment from Carolina Handling and RealtyLink will create 100 new jobs in South Carolina over five years. The rise of next-generation data centres: Powering AI, quantum, and supercomputing

September 30, 2025 by David Edwards

Not since the advent of virtualisation has the data centre world seen such a profound shift. Virtualisation, which allowed one physical server to act as many, transformed the efficiency and economics of computing in the 2000s.

Today, data centres stand at a similar inflection point – only this time, the change is being driven by artificial intelligence, supercomputing, and quantum technologies.

Every week brings new announcements: IBM teaming with AMD on “quantum-centric supercomputing”, Nokia and nScale building AI-first networks, Fujitsu working with Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) on quantum competitiveness. Aethon partners with Oracle to integrate cloud data processing into its robots

September 30, 2025 by David Edwards

Aethon, the robotics unit of ST Engineering, has partnered with Oracle to deliver an integrated solution that automates and unifies hospital inventory transport and management, creating an intelligent approach to managing supplies that helps hospitals enhance operational efficiency.

Through integrating Aethon’s autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and vision-based logistics control with Oracle Fusion Cloud Advanced Inventory Management which is part of Oracle Cloud Supply Chain & Manufacturing (SCM), hospitals deploying the AMRs can now seamlessly connect material transport with digital inventory and supply chain systems and workflows.

The integration links Oracle’s inventory picking process directly to Aethon’s AMR and vision system, enabling automatic material pickup and delivery and closes the loop with delivery status updates and final inventory location within the Oracle system for real-time visibility and accuracy. Einride autonomous truck crosses border without a human driver onboard

September 30, 2025 by David Edwards

Einride, a technology company that provides digital, electric and autonomous solutions for road freight, has achieved what it describes as a “historic milestone”: the successful cross-border operation of a cabless electric autonomous vehicle without a human driver onboard.

The autonomous border-crossing took place at the Ørje border crossing, between Norway and Sweden, and marks the world-first cabless electric autonomous crossing of a country’s border.

Autonomous cross-border vehicle operations are challenging due to differing national regulations as well as technical barriers such as inconsistent road signage and customs procedures. [Read more…] about Einride autonomous truck crosses border without a human driver onboard

RAKTA, Joby, and Skyports partner to launch air taxi service in Ras Al Khaimah by 2027

September 29, 2025 by David Edwards

The Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority, Joby Aviation, a company developing electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, and Skyports Infrastructure have announced a long-term collaboration to launch a passenger air taxi service network in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah by 2027.

RAK is one of the seven emirates – or city states – that make up the United Arab Emirates. The others include Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The announcement followed the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, marking a significant milestone in advancing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions in the UAE.

The partnership will bring together the direct support of RAKTA, Skyports’ leadership in developing vertiport infrastructure, and Joby’s all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, to design, develop and operate the first air taxi service in RAK. Interview: RealSense senior executive discusses life after Intel

September 27, 2025 by Sam Francis

For more than a decade, Intel’s RealSense cameras have been synonymous with 3D perception – powering robots, drones, and biometric systems with the ability to sense and interpret the physical world.

Now, after spinning out from Intel, RealSense is charting its own course as an independent company focused squarely on what it calls “Physical AI”: equipping machines with vision that is not just human-like, but in many cases better than human.

At the centre of this transition is Mike Nielsen, chief marketing officer at RealSense, who is helping define the company’s identity beyond Intel’s shadow. [Read more…] about Interview: RealSense senior executive discusses life after Intel

Global robot demand in factories ‘doubles over 10 years’, according to new report

September 26, 2025 by Sam Francis

The new World Robotics 2025 statistics on industrial robots, published by the International Federation of Robotics, showed 542,000 robots installed in 2024 – more than double the number 10 years ago. Annual installations topped 500,000 units for the fourth straight year.

Asia accounted for 74 percent of new deployments in 2024, compared with 16 percent in Europe and 9 percent in the Americas.

Takayuki Ito, president of the International Federation of Robotics, says: “The new World Robotics statistics show 2024 the second highest annual installation count of industrial robots in history – only 2 percent lower than the all-time-high two years ago.
