Global shifts in ADAS and autonomous vehicles reshaping competitive SoC suppliers landscape

October 20, 2025 by Sam Francis

Global innovation in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as well as autonomous vehicles are reshaping the competitive landscape for the suppliers of system-on-chips (SoCs).

The market is entering a fast-growth phase that will change supplier market shares among global suppliers, according to a new report by Counterpoint Research.

Mobileye, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Horizon Robotics and Huawei will emerge as the top five SoC suppliers for ADAS and autonomous vehicles with a combined share of over 78 percent by 2035, up from 69 percent in 2025, according to Counterpoint Research’s Global Autonomous Vehicle SoCs Forecast, H1 2025. The end is nigh for smelly socks: Heraeus invents material that eliminates bad odours

October 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

Heraeus Precious Metals has developed an antimicrobial technology called AGXX, which the company says eliminates bacteria, fungi, viruses, and algae through a catalytic reaction rather than by releasing metal ions or other potentially harmful substances.

Unlike conventional antimicrobial coatings, which often rely on silver or copper ion release and lose effectiveness over time, AGXX operates continuously using humidity and oxygen from the surrounding air.

The process generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) that destroy microorganisms and prevent biofilm formation. [Read more…] about The end is nigh for smelly socks: Heraeus invents material that eliminates bad odours

Robotic skin allows tiny robots to navigate complex, fragile environments

October 15, 2025 by Sam Francis

UC San Diego researchers have developed a soft robotic skin that enables vine robots that are just a few millimeters wide to navigate convoluted paths and fragile environments.

To accomplish this, the researchers integrated a very thin layer of actuators made of liquid crystal elastomer at strategic locations in the soft skin. The robot is steered by controlling the pressure inside its body and temperature of the actuators.

The researchers showed that a robot equipped with this skin could successfully navigate a model of the arteries in a human body. The robot also was able to navigate a model of the interior of a jet engine. [Read more…] about Robotic skin allows tiny robots to navigate complex, fragile environments

Chinese shipping to the US collapses by 90 percent amid Trump tariff threats and higher port fees

October 15, 2025 by Sam Francis

Chinese ships entering US ports have fallen by more than 90 percent since January, according to new data from maritime analytics firm Pole Star Global. The collapse underscores how quickly trade between the world’s two largest economies is deteriorating amid rising tariffs and new port fees.

Pole Star says the number of Chinese vessels entering the United States dropped from 1,678 in January to just 156 so far in October (as of October 14th), following the introduction of reciprocal port fees and the renewed threat of tariffs from the Trump administration.

Saleem Khan, chief data and analytics officer at Pole Star Global, says: “We are seeing Chinese vessels that are being screened by our customers nearing zero. [Read more…] about Chinese shipping to the US collapses by 90 percent amid Trump tariff threats and higher port fees
