SICK launches ‘ready-made, very versatile’ quality control system

December 15, 2020 by Elaine

SICK’s newly-developed MQCS (Modular Quality Control System) is an “off the shelf”, multifunctional machine vision system, and is sold as a ready-to-use package of hardware and pre-written software. Suitable for code reading, 2D or 3D inspection duties, the MQCS reduces cost and development time needed to set up automated quality inspection and logistics applications.

Originally, developed as a solution for non-contact 3D inspection of chocolate moulds in the confectionery industry, the MQCS soon demonstrated its versatility to be adapted for other applications such as “right product/right packaging” code matching, counting and aggregation of varied packages, monitoring the cycle life of materials handling equipment, and other 3D inspection and measurement tasks. Will Automation Bring the End of the Admin Assistant Role?

December 9, 2020 by Polly

The admin assistant role has been a staple of businesses for many decades. Even the smallest businesses see fit to employ some sort of admin assistant or receptionist to take care of daily tasks. It’s their job to respond to emails, schedule meetings, answer calls, and so on.

The benefit of hiring someone like this is that they take care of many things behind the scenes, freeing up your time to focus on more important tasks.

This job has also been beneficial for employees as it usually represents an entry-level career. In essence, you don’t need any qualifications to become an admin assistant, yet it gets your foot on the ladder in a big company. ABB robots accelerate coronavirus testing in Singapore

November 27, 2020 by Mai Tao

ABB robots are accelerating coronavirus testing in Singapore through a new robotics lab system which “saves time and costs and keeps lab workers safe”, according to the company.

As part of Singapore’s efforts to enhance its nation-wide COVID-19 testing capabilities, ABB’s high-precision robots have been deployed in a new automated laboratory system, known as the Rapid Automated Volume Enhancer (RAVE).

The system automates some of the manual steps usually required in sample processing. Two sets of RAVE and associated equipment can process an industry-topping throughput of close to 4,000 samples a day. RAVE also reduces test contamination and infection risks for laboratory workers.
