AiMOGA humanoid robot becomes first to achieve European certification

September 26, 2025 by Sam Francis

AiMOGA Robotics, a business unit of Chinese automotive company Chery, says its “Mornine” humanoid robot has become “the first to officially achieve three core EU certifications – CE-MD (Machinery Safety), CE-RED (Radio Equipment), and EN 18031 (Cybersecurity and Data Protection)”.

This makes Mornine “the world’s first humanoid robot certified in both hardware and software under the European Union framework”, says the company.

The certifications were conducted by TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized independent testing organization. The CE-MD certificate covers mechanical, electrical, and functional safety across system design and development. Global robot demand in factories ‘doubles over 10 years’, according to new report

September 26, 2025 by Sam Francis

The new World Robotics 2025 statistics on industrial robots, published by the International Federation of Robotics, showed 542,000 robots installed in 2024 – more than double the number 10 years ago. Annual installations topped 500,000 units for the fourth straight year.

Asia accounted for 74 percent of new deployments in 2024, compared with 16 percent in Europe and 9 percent in the Americas.

Takayuki Ito, president of the International Federation of Robotics, says: “The new World Robotics statistics show 2024 the second highest annual installation count of industrial robots in history – only 2 percent lower than the all-time-high two years ago. Google DeepMind unveils Gemini Robotics 1.5 to bring AI agents into the physical world

September 26, 2025 by Sam Francis

Google DeepMind has launched Gemini Robotics 1.5, a new vision-language-action (VLA) model designed to help robots perform complex, multi-step tasks with greater autonomy and transparency.

The release includes two complementary models: Gemini Robotics 1.5 and Gemini Robotics-ER 1.5. The former is DeepMind’s most advanced VLA system to date, capable of turning visual input and instructions into motor commands.

Unlike previous generations, it generates reasoning steps before acting, allowing robots to explain their decision-making processes and adapt more effectively to new environments. [Read more…] about Google DeepMind unveils Gemini Robotics 1.5 to bring AI agents into the physical world

NASA partners with Arkisys to advance Astrobee robots on the ISS

September 25, 2025 by Sam Francis

NASA is continuing the Astrobee mission through a collaboration with Arkisys, of Los Alamitos, California, which was awarded a reimbursable Space Act Agreement to sustain and maintain the robotic platform aboard the International Space Station.

As the agency returns astronauts to the Moon, robotic helpers like Astrobee could one day take over routine maintenance tasks and support future spacecraft at the Moon and Mars without relying on humans for continuous operation.

In March, the agency issued a call for partnership proposals to support its ongoing space research initiatives. Arkisys was selected to maintain the platform and continue enabling partners to use the Astrobee system as a means to experiment with new technologies in the microgravity environment of the space station. Honda launches hands-free mobility device in Japan

September 25, 2025 by Sam Francis

Honda has started sales of its UNI-ONE personal mobility device in Japan, targeting corporate customers in sectors such as offices, workplaces, and large facilities.

The UNI-ONE is designed as a “mobility device to be used at destinations” after people arrive by car or other transport. Honda says potential use cases include moving people around large venues or workplaces and supporting seniors or individuals who may find extended walking difficult.

The device is steered by shifting body weight while seated, allowing hands-free movement in all directions at walking speed. Honda developed the UNI-ONE using robotics expertise gained from projects such as its ASIMO humanoid robot. [Read more…] about Honda launches hands-free mobility device in Japan

Hyundai and Kia partner with South Korea’s RDA to bring wearable robots to agriculture

September 25, 2025 by Sam Francis

Hyundai and Kia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea’s Rural Development Administration (RDA) to expand the use of wearable robotics in farming.

The partnership will see the companies introduce their X-ble Shoulder robot, developed by Hyundai and Kia’s Robotics LAB, to agricultural sites across the country.

The X-ble Shoulder is designed to reduce strain on workers performing heavy shoulder tasks. Field tests carried out earlier this year with the RDA showed the device reduced deltoid muscle activation by about 22 percent, according to electromyography (EMG) sensor measurements.
