DHL bolsters its US network with $74 million Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky investment

DHL eCommerce, a division of the world’s biggest logistics company, DHL Group, has opened a fully-owned 307,000 square-foot distribution center in Hebron, KY, 10 minutes from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).

The company is combining three properties it leased in a business park in the CVG area into this larger, $74 million distribution center that will employ approximately 400 full and part-time employees.

Otto Group teams up with Boston Dynamics

Otto Group, one of the world’s largest e-commerce retailers, has signed a strategic agreement with Boston Dynamics, a developer of mobile robotics and maker of highly innovative machines, to continue automating its logistics operations.

The plan is to deploy Boston Dynamics’ Spot robots in more than 10 and Stretch robots in more than 20 of the group’s facilities over the next two years, beginning with Hermes Fulfilment.

The deployment supports Otto Group’s efforts to improve safety, increase operational efficiency and address labor shortages for specific types of warehouse work and the agreement marks the first time both of Boston Dynamics’ commercially available robots will be deployed together at enterprise scale. Starship Technologies now offering autonomous robot delivery on 50 US college campuses

Starship Technologies, which claims to be the world’s leading provider of autonomous delivery services, says it is now offering its service to 50 college campuses across the US.

This includes several new schools launching services, including Wichita State University, Boise State University and The University of New Orleans.

Starship’s fleet of more than 2,000 robots provides deliveries in half of the US states as well as locations around the globe and more than 1.1 million students in the US have access to the service. Serve Robotics raises $30 million financing to scale robotic delivery

Serve Robotics, a developer of autonomous sidewalk delivery robots, has raised another $30 million in financing, bringing the company’s total funds raised to over $56 million.

Concurrent with the raise of new capital and conversion of existing convertible notes, Serve also completed a reverse merger with Patricia Acquisition, a public Delaware corporation, whereby Serve became a wholly owned subsidiary of Patricia.

Seaports to install almost 400,000 automated guided vehicles by 2030

The maritime industry has drastically surged its automation efforts in the wake of global seaport congestion.

In addition to solutions such as gantries, automated port gates, and stacking cranes, autonomous horizontal transport modes such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that transport containers and loads to and from ships have been the most productivity-augmenting solutions in seaports.

According to ABI Research, a technology research firm, AGV seaport deployments worldwide will have a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 26 per cent from 2022 to 2030 and exceed 370,000 global deployments by 2027. Cyngn agrees ‘pre-order’ deal with Arauco for 100 autonomous electric forklifts

Cyngn, a developer of AI-powered autonomous driving solutions for industrial applications, has signed paid “pre-order agreement” with Arauco, a producer of sustainable forestry products, pulp, and engineered wood that supplies the furniture and construction industries.

The initial 100 autonomous electric DriveMod-enabled forklifts aim to enhance Arauco’s operations and drive efficiency in their material handling processes in the near future.

The company says this pre-order agreement marks a significant milestone in Cyngn’s DriveMod Forklift initiative that was first announced in June and exemplifies the two companies’ collaborative efforts to power AI innovations. SoftBank and Symbotic establish new ‘warehouse-as-a-service’ joint venture

SoftBank, the telecommunications group which has wideranging interests in robotics, and Symbotic, a developer of AI-powered automation technology for the supply chain, have established a new joint venture to address the more than $500 billion annual warehouse-as-a-service market opportunity.

The newly created company is called GreenBox Systems LLC.

Concurrently, Symbotic also announced an approximately $7.5 billion new customer contract with GreenBox, who will be the exclusive provider of Symbotic systems in the warehouse-as-a-service market, and will make supply chain services available to customers. CEVA Logistics adds 57 Exotec Skypod robots to two of its logistics centres

CEVA Logistics is expanding warehouse automation in its two warehouses in Venray, Netherlands, thanks to the Skypod System from Exotec, a France-based warehouse robotics specialist.

The flexible goods-to-person order picking solution will enhance facility efficiency, and during peak seasons, CEVA expects to handle three times the volumes than before.

The two facilities join an existing Exotec Skypod installation at CEVA’s facility in Roosendaal. 57 Skypod robots are being deployed at the Venray facilities to add warehouse automation for CEVA’s customers, ultimately increasing both warehouse capacity and flexibility to bridge peak periods.
