ROCIN-ECO consortium takes ‘major step’ towards hands-free EV charging

July 15, 2024 by David Edwards

Rocsys, a provider of hands-free charging solutions, together with partners Ionity, Audi, TÜV SÜD and affiliated partners Porsche, BMW, Ford, Marquardt, AVL, and Huber+Suhner, as part of the ROCIN-ECO consortium, has developed and demonstrated what they say is “the first interoperable automatic conductive charging solution for passenger electric vehicles”.

The solution both uses and contributes to international standards (ISO and IEC) for automatic charging.

The partners worked together to create an ecosystem where any car can charge automatically regardless of brand or type, and which Rocsys will adopt in early 2025. [Read more…] about ROCIN-ECO consortium takes ‘major step’ towards hands-free EV charging

Nexperia to invest $200 million in Hamburg chip-making facility

July 4, 2024 by David Edwards

Semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia plans to invest $200 million to develop the next generation of wide bandgap semiconductors (WBG) such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN), and to establish production infrastructure at the Hamburg site.

At the same time, wafer fab capacity for silicon (Si) diodes and transistors will be increased. The investments were jointly announced with Hamburg’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr Melanie Leonhard, on the occasion of the 100-year anniversary of the production site.

To meet the growing long-term demand for efficient power semiconductors, all three technologies (SiC, GaN, and Si) will be developed and produced in Germany starting in June 2024. This means Nexperia is supporting key technologies in the fields of electrification and digitalization. [Read more…] about Nexperia to invest $200 million in Hamburg chip-making facility

DTAC consortium demonstrates AI and autonomous robots at Munich Airport

May 20, 2024 by David Edwards

In front of an audience of numerous high-ranking representatives from politics, industry, administration and the media, researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML demonstrated the initial results of the “Digital Testbed Air Cargo” (DTAC) research project at Munich Airport last week – a groundbreaking presentation of solutions that will make optimal use of the potential of digital technologies and actively shape the future of air cargo.

A “robot dog” patroling autonomously through the warehouse looking for free storage locations, a highly dynamic transport robot that automatically moves pallets to their storage locations and a very flexible “segway robot” that places parcels from Euro-pallets onto a conveyor belt: Sounds like science fiction? But it’s not, as researchers from Fraunhofer IML have now demonstrated to the public for the first time at Munich Airport.
