Astronauts Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali AlQarni arrived in Saudi Arabia amidst celebrations and an official welcome home.

They have accomplished the country’s successful and historic scientific mission to space aboard the ISS.

South Korean robot maker takes part in supermassive Saudi development Neom

Neubility, a South Korean developer of indoor-outdoor autonomous mobile robots, says it will take part in Oxagon X McLaren Accelerator, a global program co-hosted by Oxagon, a futuristic eco-friendly industrial complex in Neom, a massive futuristic property development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and UK supercar maker McLaren.

Neubility qualifies for the program due to its high level of competitiveness in smart locker and last mile delivery among key areas promoted by Oxagon including autonomous mobility and logistics automation.

Selected businesses will be given various benefits including financial aid, networking with global enterprises, presentations, business workshops and mentoring services at McLaren, and pilot tests in Oxagon, the industrial hub of Neom. Unibio has announced an investment of approximately $70 million from the Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG).

Unibio was the Wealth Club’s first ever single company Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) offer to its clients in 2017.

Zorabots partners with QSS to showcase humanoid robot and plans to establish robotics joint venture in Saudi Arabia

Robotics and software company Zorabots have started talks to create joint venture with Saudi tech company QSS. The news comes after the two companies jointly presented what is believed to be Saudia Arabia’s first domestically created humanoid robot, called “Sara” (main picture and below).

Sara is being presented at the renowned tech event LEAP, being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the sophisticated humanoid has been declared by relevant authorities as a “Saudi tech jewel”.

The robot was developed by tech company QSS with the support of Zorabots. Due to the “overwhelming success” of Sara, Zorabots and QSS signed an agreement for further cooperation. Ocean Aero partners with KAUST and Shelf Subsea to advance maritime research in Red Sea

Ocean Aero, a manufacturer and service provider of ocean-going Autonomous Underwater and Surface Vehicles (AUSVs), has agreed a partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), one of Saudi Arabia’s preeminent centers of academia, research, and development, and Saudi Shelf Subsea, part of the Shelf Subsea Group of companies headquartered in Perth, Australia with extensive operations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

The trilateral partnership will center on novel maritime research in the Red Sea and has several core tenets:

  • applied research on tailored payloads for Saudi-specific applications with a number of the Kingdom’s maritime organizations;
  • exploration of advanced concept development utilizing existing and joint IP; and
  • continued execution of scientific services with a fleet of Ocean Aero’s TRITON AUSVs.

Desolination: Unique energy and water project combines solar power and desalination

A unique, €10 million “Desolination” project, involving 19 partners and 12 countries, aims to develop a “first-of-its-kind efficient coupling of concentrated solar power and desalination techniques”.

The Horizon 2020 Desolination project started in June, this year and will last 48 months until May 2025.

Honeywell to extend maintenance services agreement with Saudi Arabian Airlines

Honeywell has been selected by Saudi Arabian Airlines to extend maintenance services for auxiliary power units (APUs) installed on the airline’s fleet of Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 aircraft.

The two companies are extending their current partnership, which will enable SAUDIA to structure their fleet and APU maintenance planning in line with the needs of their fleet expansion program.

Rethink Robotics has showcased its collaborative robotics at the recent Saudi Emerging Technologies Forum. 

Rethink’s parent company, HAHN Group, along with its digital business division, will also be exhibiting at the event.
