Flow Robotics brings its automated pipetting robot to North America

September 3, 2021 by David Edwards

Flow Robotics, a Denmark-based designer and producer of robots for automated liquid handling and the creator of the flowbot One, has established its North American subsidiary, with operations in Princeton, New Jersey.

The company’s first product, the flowbot One, is designed to transform how liquid handling responsibilities are performed in the laboratory by automating manual pipetting tasks.

The robot will be showcased for the first time in the US at the SLAS 2021 Americas Sample Management Hybrid Symposium September 9-10 in La Jolla, California. [Read more…] about Flow Robotics brings its automated pipetting robot to North America

Specialist ‘robotics-as-a-service’ startup lets manufacturers ‘hire’ popular robots at ‘low hourly rate’

September 1, 2021 by David Edwards

A new robotics-as-a-service company Formic Technologies has launched with a simple value proposition: hire fully customized robots from top vendors at a “low hourly rate and no upfront cost”.

To help small and medium-size manufacturers benefit from automation, Formic handles every aspect of a financing and implementation – from scoping, engineering, purchasing, implementation, and maintenance. The company also guarantees uptime, with customers paying nothing for system downtime.

Traditionally, manufacturers buy robots, which is a lengthy, complex, inflexible, and expensive process. These barriers to entry are so high for smaller manufacturers that they often refrain from implementing automation altogether. Delivery robot company Kiwibot expands operations to four cities in partnership with Knight Foundation

September 1, 2021 by David Edwards

Kiwibot, a robotic delivery service that has completed over 150,000 food deliveries with semi-autonomous robots, has expanded its operations to San Jose, Miami-Dade County, Pittsburgh, and Detroit.

This implementation of sidewalk delivery devices is possible due to a partnership with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, which funds initiatives that ensure that “residents’ voices drive the future of people-centered, smart cities”, says the company.

Each of the four cities will be given up to 10 robots with one human supervisor, making deliveries across these urban zones more efficient and cost-effective through Kiwibot’s last-mile delivery network. Landscaping robot company Electric Sheep Robotics officially launches

August 26, 2021 by David Edwards

Robotic lawnmower startup Electric Sheep Robotics has now officially launched as “an autonomy partner to the landscaping industry”.

The company is tackling the industry’s single most pressing challenge, a decades-long shortage of reliable labor. This has often resulted in businesses that are unable to grow beyond a certain size even if the demand is present.

Over 50 percent of landscape maintenance involves lawn mowing, a tedious and repetitive process made physically grueling by exposure to harsh weather. This exacerbates the industry’s labor shortages, low growth and shrinking margins. [Read more…] about Landscaping robot company Electric Sheep Robotics officially launches
