Korea Association of Robot Industry to operate Korea Pavilion at Automate Show

May 20, 2023 by David Edwards

The Korea Association of Robot Industry (KAR) says it will be operating a “Korea Pavilion” at the Automate Show, which starts in a couple of days. Nine Korean companies will feature their products in Korea Pavilion located in booth number 3250 and 3452.

KAR has participated in many trade shows held in Europe and East Asia for the decades, but it has never participated in Automate or any other trade shows held in the US.

While China remains the largest market for Korean robot companies with exports worth of $319 million, The United States is the second-largest market with exports amounting to $204 million, according to the Korean Robot Industry Survey. Humatics launches ‘first’ robotic system with microlocation for in-motion assembly lines

May 19, 2023 by David Edwards

Humatics is planning to showcase what it says is “an industry first” – an in-motion engine assembly application with multiple robotic arms working concurrently in the same pitch.

The company will show off its new microlocation technology at this year’s Automate Show in Detroit, Michigan.

Humatics says the ability to introduce automation into production environments to achieve tasks that were previously not possible with robotics “opens up a new level of cost reduction, quality control and profitability contribution for the automotive and aerospace manufacturing industries”. ABB predicts top US robotics trends

May 18, 2023 by David Edwards

With annual revenue in the US robotics market expected to grow at 5.62 percent, resulting in a market volume of over $9 billion by 2027, John Bubnikovich, president of ABB US Robotics Division, is making several predictions on key trends in in robotics automation in the US for 2023 and beyond.

Bubnikovich says: ”The impact of US labor shortages is increasingly being felt by many businesses as they struggle to keep pace with customer demands, even with the potential for some softening in the US economy in the short-term.

“This, combined with global political uncertainty, fragile supply chains and rising material costs, in addition to the growing trend of reshoring and nearshoring of operations, means more companies are adopting robotic automation to maximize flexibility, build resilience and adapt more sustainable production processes.” [Read more…] about ABB predicts top US robotics trends

MIT scientists find new way to help robots handle fluids

May 15, 2023 by David Edwards

Researchers create new simulation tool for robots to manipulate complex fluids in a step towards helping robots more effortlessly assist with daily tasks that deal with liquids

Imagine you’re enjoying a picnic by a riverbank on a windy day. (Why you chose to do this on a windy day was your own poor decision).

A gust of wind accidentally catches your paper napkin and lands on the water’s surface, quickly drifting away from you. You grab a nearby stick and carefully agitate the water to retrieve it, creating a series of small waves.

These waves eventually push the napkin back towards the shore, so you grab it. In this scenario, the water acts as a medium for transmitting forces, enabling you to manipulate the position of the napkin without direct contact. Osaro targets fast-growing subscription market with AI-powered kitting robots

May 15, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Osaro, a developer of machine-learning-enabled robotics for e-commerce, has launched the Osaro Robotic Kitting System.

This addition to its range of e-commerce robots is equipped with advanced piece-picking skills and end effectors to handle the constantly changing array of product SKUs that must be organized, placed, and packaged into custom kits.

The new system addresses the exploding market for subscription products that require kitting. Kitting is both a merchandising strategy and a logistics technique whereby curated boxes of complementary items are packaged and shipped together as a single “kit” with a unique SKU.
