July 17, 2024 by Mark Allinson

May Mobility, a developer of autonomous driving technology, says that more than 10,000 riders have used its goMARTI autonomous vehicle service in Grand Rapids, Minnesota since its launch in September 2022.

Grand Rapids is a rural community known for extreme winter weather patterns and steep snow banks. This milestone demonstrates May Mobility’s ability to operate under challenging and diverse circumstances while becoming a trusted and vital resource for the community.

May Mobility, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), The PLUM Catalyst and the city of Grand Rapids partnered to deliver an accessible transportation option that augments existing transportation. April 9, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Ride-hail passengers in Las Vegas can now take an autonomous ride in a Motional IONIQ 5 robotaxi at night

“Las Vegas is a city that really comes alive once the sun goes down, so extending our service to match rider demand is a critical step forward in the evolution of our vehicle,” says Akshay Jaising, Motional’s vice president of commercialization.

“We’re happy we can now spend more hours everyday introducing passengers to our technology, and helping them travel safely and comfortably where they need to go.”

Night driving is one of three passenger-friendly service upgrades making their way to Motional’s fleet of all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxis, which have been carrying public passengers in Las Vegas since August. [Read more…] about Motional to add new features to its robotaxi service

Airbus boss backs hydrogen airplanes as the ‘ultimate solution’

February 18, 2022 by Mark Allinson

The CEO of Airbus, currently the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, says he believes hydrogen-powered airplanes are the “ultimate solution” to the unfair criticism of the aerospace industry as a planet-polluting monster.

The World Wildlife Fund says the aviation industry is “one of the fastest-growing sources of the greenhouse gas emissions driving global climate change”, adding that air travel is “currently the most carbon intensive activity an individual can make”.

These things have been true for many decades, but with completely crazy extreme weather systems attacking different parts of the world on an almost weekly basis over the past couple of years, the search for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) has taken on a new urgency.
