Robot orders in North America ‘down 8 percent in first half of 2024’

The North American robotics market saw a decline in both units ordered (down 7.9 percent to 15,705 units) and revenue (down 6.8 percent to $982.83 million) during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

Despite some bright spots in specific industries, the overall performance reflected in the latest report from the Association for Advancing Automation (A3) shows a pullback in robotics investments across key areas, influenced by ongoing economic headwinds faced by North American manufacturers during the first six months of 2024.

Doosan debuts collaborative robot at US trade show

Doosan Robotics showcased a wide variety of application scenarios using their cutting-edge collaborative robots (cobots), indicating the company’s entry into the North American market.

Doosan cobots have a track record in several markets worldwide including Germany, France and China, with capabilities such as a working radius of 900 to 1,700 millimetres and a load capacity of 6 to 15 kilograms.

The company gave a demonstration of six cobots collaborating with two human workers to execute fine motor activities on an auto assembly line.

Report: North American articulated robots market set to grow

The revenue of the North America articulated robots market is projected to reach $5.85 billion by 2026 in terms of robot systems including hardware, software & service, a 2019-2026 CAGR of 11.98%, according to a new report from ResearchAndMarkets.com.

The North America Articulated Robots Market by Subsystem, Function, Component, Payload, Industry Vertical, and Country 2015-2026: Growth Opportunity and Business Strategy report says annual shipments are expected to exhibit a CAGR of 14.72% during the same period, advancing to 54.26 thousand units in 2026.

Record number of robots shipped in North America in 2018

Robots shipped to North American companies in record numbers last year, with more non-automotive companies installing robots than ever before, according to statistics from the Robotic Industries Association (RIA).

35,880 units were shipped in 2018, a 7 percent increase over 2017, with 16,702 shipments to non-automotive companies, up 41 percent.

Notable growth came in areas like food and consumer goods (48 percent), plastics and rubber (37 percent), life sciences (31 percent), and electronics (22 percent).

Volvo to introduce all-electric trucks in North America

Volvo Trucks will introduce all-electric truck demonstrators in California next year, and commercialise them in North America in 2020, as part of a partnership between the Volvo Group, California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), and industry leaders in transportation and electrical charging infrastructure.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has preliminarily awarded $44.8 million to SCAQMD for the Volvo Lights (Low Impact Green Heavy Transport Solutions) project.

The Volvo Lights project will involve 16 partners, and transform freight operations at the facilities of two of the United States’ top trucking fleets.

Fanuc America to expand headquarters with new facility in Michigan

Fanuc America Corporation, major supplier of robotics, CNC systems, robomachines and industrial IoT solutions, has announced plans to construct a new facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan, US, that will be used for engineering, product development, manufacturing and warehousing.

Fanuc’s products are applied in a wide range of industries including automotive, aerospace, consumer products, food and pharmaceuticals to name a few.

Since 1982, the company’s line of painting robots, and a variety of automation software products have been designed and built in Michigan.

North American semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry posts $2.5 billion in billings

North America-based manufacturers of semiconductor-making equipment posted $2.49 billion in billings worldwide in June 2018, according to industry association SEMI.

The $2.49 billion figure is calculated by SEMI on a “three-month average basis”, and is published in the Market Data Billings Report, published today by SEMI.

Panasonic to establish new company to strengthen factory solutions business in North America

Panasonic has established a new company for its North America operations.

Panasonic Corporation today announced the establishment of Panasonic System Solutions North America Company as a division of Panasonic Corporation of North America, Panasonic’s Newark, New Jersey-based subsidiary.

Midea expands in North America

Midea, which claims to be the world’s leading manufacturer of air conditioners and home appliances, has strengthened its presence in North America by opening new facilities to support what it says is “continued business growth in the region”. 

Midea’s North American locations include a customer service center, expanded corporate office spaces, and research and development facilities. This expansion further enhances Midea’s network of over 280 major product facilities and logistics centers worldwide.

Jim Tomaszewski, president of Midea America, says: “Our physical expansion in North America is a testament to the continued business growth in this important market.
