Nvidia is one of the world’s largest microprocessor manufacturers and high on the Robotics and Automation News list of top 25 AI chip companies.

Handling large, heavy and bulky objects with Morello equipment

Large construction and engineering projects almost always feature particular requirements in transportation and handling of big, heavy and often awkwardly shaped objects.

Otto Motors expands its autonomous mobile robots business to Japan

Otto Motors, the industrial division of Clearpath Robotics, is expanding into the Japanese market.

The move marks Ontario-based Otto’s first expansion outside North America.

Siemens’ MindSphere wins plaudit as industrial IoT platform

MindSphere, the industrial internet of things platform from Siemens, has been named a leader in its market by an independent research firm.

MindSphere can be described as an industrial technology “ecosystem”, which now integrates software from SAS, AWS, Microsoft, Alibaba and Arrow Electronics.

Siemens says the IIoT has the potential to significantly improve global productivity and growth, with Accenture estimating that this latest wave of digital innovation will accelerate the reinvention of sectors that account for almost two-thirds of world output and add $14.2 trillion to the global economy by 2030. Teradyne to build ‘world’s largest’ collaborative robotics hub at a cost of $36 million

Teradyne has embarked on a project to build what it says will be “the world’s largest collaborative robotics hub” when it is finished. 

The facility (main illustration) is located in Denmark and its eventual cost is estimated at approximately $36 million.

Denmark’s minister of industry, business and financial affairs, Simon Kollerup, unveiled what will become the new home of Teradyne’s robotics business units, Mobile Industrial Robots and Universal Robots, both of which it acquired in the past year or so. Automaticon organisers expect visitors from more countries than ever

Organisers of the upcoming Automaticon event are expecting more visitors from more countries than ever before. 

The Polish trade show takes place on 17-19 of March in Warsaw. The “International Fair for Industrial Automation Automaticon”, to give the event its full name, is the main fair for automation, control, measurements and robotics in Poland.

Panasonic develops ‘multifunctional secure’ IC for industrial IoT

Panasonic has developed a multifunctional secure integrated circuit in response to the need for enhanced security measures to protect internet of things and industrial devices used in facilities such as factories and warehouses.

When installed in such devices, Panasonic says its new IC with unique encrypting functions will “boost their security”. The company will start sample shipments in February 2020.

South Korea reaches new record of 300,000 industrial robots in operation

South Korea has doubled the number of industrial robots over the past five years to reach a new record of 300,000 industrial robots in operation.

This is according to figures in the World Robotics report, released by the International Federation of Robotics.

The data shows a new record stock of about 300,000 operational industrial robots in the Republic of Korea – more commonly known as South Korea – in 2018, which is an increase of about 10 percent on the previous year. ABB and Ericsson showcase 5G networks for industrial robots

ABB and Ericsson, together with Swisscom, demonstrated for the first time how “easily and effectively” robots can be controlled over wide distances utilizing the real-time communication capabilities of 5G.

ABB showcased the potential of no-latency communication enabled by 5G to world leaders during the recent World Economic Forum, in Davos.
