IDS to host free online event ‘Capture the Light’ presented by its image processing experts

June 14, 2021 by David Edwards

For the successful implementation of image processing applications, it is not only important to choose the right camera and a suitable image sensor.

In order to capture light without interference and convert it into usable information, suitable optics and high-quality filter glasses also play a decisive role.

The focus event “Capture the Light” on June 24th at 2 pm BST addresses this topic in three exciting sessions. [Read more…] about IDS to host free online event ‘Capture the Light’ presented by its image processing experts

Intelligent multi-camera system for quality control of vaccine bottles

May 13, 2021 by David Edwards

Combating the Covid-19 pandemic is at the top of the global agenda. Around the world, efforts are being made to supply the population with vaccine as quickly as possible. But providing around 8 billion doses – at least one for every person in the world – is no easy task.

Glass vials are a crucial factor in the delivery of the billions of doses of vaccine. About 50 billion of them are produced worldwide every year. Currently the producers of the vials are massively ramping up their production so as not to become the proverbial bottleneck in the supply chain.

However, medical-grade vaccine vials are not standard glass tubes. Whether rolled-rim bottles, threaded bottles or ampoules, they are all made of the special glass borosilicate and require customized production lines. Knowledge platform for topics related to image processing with 2D, 3D and AI

May 5, 2021 by Elaine

IDS Vision Channel – Platform for digital live sessions and networking

“Knowledge increases when it is shared” – following this maxim, IDS is making its expertise as one of the leading manufacturers of digital industrial cameras free of charge and directly accessible on a new platform.

In addition to online events, useful tools such as calendars and live chats, the IDS Vision Channel also offers a media library with recordings of past events and additional, exclusive content.

The online sessions address image processing topics around 2D, 3D and embedded vision as well as artificial intelligence. They are short, focused and build on each other depending on the topic. [Read more…] about Knowledge platform for topics related to image processing with 2D, 3D and AI

IDS cameras ensure quality of vaccine containers

April 22, 2021 by Elaine

Coronavirus: Vaccine bottle manufacturers under pressure?

Combating the Covid-19 pandemic is at the top of the global agenda. Providing vaccine to populations around the globe means providing around 8 billion doses – with only one for every person in the world.

In addition to the availability of the vaccine, a decisive factor in the race against time is the disposability of the glass vials.

To ensure that the mass vaccination against the coronavirus does not fail because of the container, the producers of the vials are massively ramping up their production so as not to become the proverbial bottleneck in the supply chain. IDS unveils camera-based cap control with AI for beverage and bottle industry

April 2, 2021 by David Edwards

Strong price pressure combined with high quality requirements – the beverage and bottle industry faces the classic dilemma of many industries. This is also the case in the quality control department of a French manufacturer of plastic caps.

Reliably detecting cracks and micro-cracks on plastic caps in 40 different colours and shades running at high speed on a production line is a real challenge.

APREX Solutions from Nancy, France has successfully achieved this goal with the help of image processing technology and artificial intelligence.

The basic images are provided by a USB 3 industrial camera from IDS Imaging Development Systems. [Read more…] about IDS unveils camera-based cap control with AI for beverage and bottle industry

Cost reduction in aerospace through additive manufacturing

February 23, 2021 by David Edwards

Spacecraft are developed on Earth, tested, fully assembled and transported in one piece by a launch vehicle to their respective places of operation. Each component must be designed to withstand the high loads of the launch phase.

In most cases, in addition to complex test procedures, this leads to an oversized structure of the spacecraft components, because in orbit they experience only a fraction of the stresses they must endure during rocket launch.

The maximum take-off mass required for transport with the launch vehicle and the volume of satellites, for example, thus cause high space transport costs. [Read more…] about Cost reduction in aerospace through additive manufacturing

Picking the Unknown: Robust and Flexible Robotic Automation in Logistics

February 9, 2021 by Elaine

The global pandemic has radically impacted the supply chain and logistics industry, making the need for robotic automation more urgent than ever. With more than 70 percent of labor in warehousing being dedicated to picking and packing, numerous companies are gradually investing in logistics automation.

But what happens when the robots must handle an unlimited number of (unknown) stock keeping units? These companies need a fast, reliable, and robust way to automate picking and placing of a large variety of objects.

This challenge was taken up successfully by the Dutch company Fizyr. The computer vision company based in Delft focuses on enabling robots to pick unknown objects even in harsh logistics environments. [Read more…] about Picking the Unknown: Robust and Flexible Robotic Automation in Logistics
