SICK develops first IP69K incremental encoder with added ingress protection

January 29, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Encoder delivers hygienic, long-lasting reliability in demanding food and beverage environments, says SICK

Developed for long-lasting reliability despite frequent high-pressure chemical washdowns in demanding food and beverage applications, SICK’s DBS60I-W is the first IP69K incremental encoder with added ingress protection thanks to a new, patented deflector shield, according to the company.

The SICK DBS60I-W washdown encoder delivers all the high-resolution performance of SICK’s popular DBS60 incremental encoder but in a robust IP69K-rated, 316L (V4A) stainless steel housing.

The specially developed deflector shield is designed to protect the shaft seal from ingress of water and caustic chemicals during high-pressure washdown. As a result, the washdown encoder promises a long product life, protecting machine reliability and availability on food processing, bottling, and packaging lines. Hokuyo releases upgraded safety scanner

June 17, 2020 by Elaine Leave a Comment

Hokuyo, a global manufacturer of sensor and automation technology, has announced a new firmware update on the safety laser scanner “UAM-05LP-T301”. (See video below.)

The firmware has been updated periodically since the product release in 2015 and this is the fifth update. The firmware is updated to meet every challenging customer’s requirement and to adapt to the fast changing market trends. The newest version is 2.4.0.

With its small profile and 5 metre protection range, UAM-05LP-T301 is “the world’s smallest, longest protection range safety laser scanner”, says Hokuyo. [Read more…] about Hokuyo releases upgraded safety scanner

Wachendorff launches compact encoder offering high-speed motion synchronisation for PLCs

January 27, 2018 by Sam Francis

Wachendorff WDGA 58F encoder

As a recent addition to its ProfiNet IRT protocol variants, Wachendorff’s WDGA 58F absolute magnetic encoder features a minimum bus cycle time of 125 μs which is eminently suited to tightly synchronised multi-axis motion control on the fastest PLCs.

Available in the UK from Variohm EuroSensor, the 58 mm diameter encoder is also reckoned to be the world’s smallest ProfiNet encoder with a nominal length of only 46.5 mm.

Wachendorff’s WDGA series absolute encoders, are characterised by their single- plus multi-turn functionality and the unique patented magnetic scanning principle that offers exceptionally high-precision position and velocity measurement with extreme durability and long life – without the use of wear-prone gears or batteries.  [Read more…] about Wachendorff launches compact encoder offering high-speed motion synchronisation for PLCs

Grimme marks 80 years since first automated potato harvesting machine

June 2, 2017 by Sam Francis

grimme potato machine

grimme potato machine

In Germany alone, over 10 million tonnes of potatoes are harvested each year. Worldwide, the total even exceeds 341 million tonnes.

More than 80 years ago, Grimme developed the first potato harvesting machine. A great deal has happened since that time, and now Grimme is said to be the world market leader in potato harvesting technology.

Besides the actual harvesting, efficient storage technology is equally important to ensure that potatoes remain available in top quality to meet demand.  [Read more…] about Grimme marks 80 years since first automated potato harvesting machine
