Siemens and Audi partner to implement ‘next level’ software-defined automation

Engineering giant Siemens and automotive company Audi say they are “revolutionizing manufacturing processes” with “next level” software-defined automation and artificial intelligence (AI).

The long-standing partnership is accelerating innovation for the automotive industry by focusing on integrating virtual and hardware controllers, enhancing safety functions, and streamlining production processes.

Audi has also implemented AI-driven automation for optical inspection based on the Siemens portfolio. The goal is to automate detection and removal of weld spatter on vehicle bodies using a customer-trained AI algorithm and high-resolution images. Apptronik raises more than $400 million in additional Series A funding

Apptronik, the AI-powered humanoid robotics company, has successfully closed an “oversubscribed” $403 million Series A funding round, adding an extra $53 million to the previously announced $350 million round led by B Capital and Capital Factory, with participation from Google.

Mercedes-Benz, Japan Post Capital, ARK Invest, Helium-3, Magnetar, RyderVentures (the corporate venture capital arm of Ryder System), a syndicate led by Korea Investment Partners, and others are also joining the oversubscribed round, reflecting strong market demand and investor confidence in Apptronik’s leadership, unique design and technology, and transformative vision for embodied AI.

The Series A funding will fuel production and deployment of Apptronik’s AI-powered humanoid robot, Apollo, and support growing customer demand across key industries – including automotive, electronics manufacturing, third-party logistics, beverage bottling and fulfillment, and consumer packaged goods. Photoneo Brightpick, a provider of 3D vision and AI robotics solutions, has closed the sale of Photoneo to Zebra Technologies, a specialist in digitizing and automating warehouse workflows.

Photoneo, the former sister company of Brightpick under the Photoneo Brightpick Group umbrella, is a provider of robotic vision sensors and intelligence software.
