Former DeepMind team launches AI robotics startup with robots that learn from workers

Reimagine Robotics, an AI robotics company founded by former leaders of Google DeepMind’s Applied Robotics team, has emerged from stealth with new technology that allows robots to learn on the job.

The company is developing intelligent robots that anyone can train and use. Instead of requiring specialist programmers whenever a task or production process changes, workers can show the robot what to do, watch it attempt the task and correct it on the spot.

Google DeepMind unveils Gemini Robotics 1.5 to bring AI agents into the physical world

Google DeepMind has launched Gemini Robotics 1.5, a new vision-language-action (VLA) model designed to help robots perform complex, multi-step tasks with greater autonomy and transparency.

The release includes two complementary models: Gemini Robotics 1.5 and Gemini Robotics-ER 1.5. The former is DeepMind’s most advanced VLA system to date, capable of turning visual input and instructions into motor commands.

Google DeepMind releases new world model with ‘vast space’ to train robots and autonomous systems

Google DeepMind has unveiled Genie 3, the latest version of its generative world model, describing it as a step forward in creating more intelligent and adaptable simulation environments – including those for robotics applications.

Although the company’s announcement focuses heavily on advancements in video prediction and general AI learning, Genie 3 has direct relevance for robotics developers who rely on high-fidelity, physics-aware simulation systems to train and test autonomous systems.

Described as a “world model,” Genie 3 can generate realistic interactive environments directly from a single image prompt and a short textual description, such as “driving down a highway at sunset” or “walking in a rainy city”. Apptronik raises more than $400 million in additional Series A funding

Apptronik, the AI-powered humanoid robotics company, has successfully closed an “oversubscribed” $403 million Series A funding round, adding an extra $53 million to the previously announced $350 million round led by B Capital and Capital Factory, with participation from Google.

Mercedes-Benz, Japan Post Capital, ARK Invest, Helium-3, Magnetar, RyderVentures (the corporate venture capital arm of Ryder System), a syndicate led by Korea Investment Partners, and others are also joining the oversubscribed round, reflecting strong market demand and investor confidence in Apptronik’s leadership, unique design and technology, and transformative vision for embodied AI.

The Series A funding will fuel production and deployment of Apptronik’s AI-powered humanoid robot, Apollo, and support growing customer demand across key industries – including automotive, electronics manufacturing, third-party logistics, beverage bottling and fulfillment, and consumer packaged goods. Google DeepMind releases two new AI models for robotics development

Google DeepMind has introduced two new artificial intelligence models – Gemini Robotics and Gemini Robotics-ER (short for “embodied reasoning”). Google says this marks a “major step forward” in the development of AI systems designed to control real-world robots.

Both models are built on the Gemini 2.0 platform and are aimed at enabling robots to perform a wide range of tasks with greater generality, interactivity, and dexterity.
