Geekplus launches its first robotic automation project in South Africa

Geekplus, one of the world’s largest providers of warehouse robotics and automation solutions, has launched its first project in South Africa in collaboration with its partner European Conveyors and Components (ECC) for the country’s online retailer, Takealot.

The innovative initiative introduces a large fleet of intelligent sorting robots to Takealot’s Johannesburg facility, setting new benchmarks for operational efficiency, ergonomics, and employee satisfaction in the logistics sector.

This is Geekplus’ first project in South Africa marking a significant milestone not only for the company but also for the evolution of robotics in African logistics. Dexory signs robotics partnership with giant Saudi company

Dexory, a provider of AI-powered robotics, and Al Masarat Holding have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore opportunities for implementing cutting-edge robotic solutions in logistics and manufacturing within Masarat Mobility Park.

The MOU was signed during the Private Sector Forum, organised by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), highlighting the commitment of both organisations to drive technological advancements in Saudi Arabia’s logistics and manufacturing sectors.

Danobat launches ‘most precise robot on the market’

The machine tool manufacturer Danobat has entered the industrial robotics sector with the launch of the DMTR range, a development which the company says “redefines industry standards”.

Danobat says the new machine – which it describes as the ‘most precise robot on the market” – sets a new benchmark in accuracy and efficiency, combining the flexibility of a robot with the stability and precision of a machine tool.

Matthews Automation agrees global commercial partnership with Mobile Industrial Robots

Matthews Automation has agreed a global commercial partnership between its automation solutions business segment and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), a manufacturer of collaborative autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and part of Teradyne Robotics, a division of Teradyne.

The new partnership combines Matthews’ proven warehouse automation technologies with MiR’s advanced AMRs uniquely suited for internal transportation and material handling tasks in a variety of settings.

This collaboration positions both companies to capitalize on the projected 30 percent compound annual growth rate in the AGV/AMR market by 2028, driven by rising demand in e-commerce and the flexibility of AMRs to deploy without major infrastructure changes. Opinion: Turnkey robotic systems are already behind the times

If you needed to buy a device to provide transportation from point A to point B, you wouldn’t buy a motor and then try to turn it into a vehicle. But many manufacturers who need a device to load and unload machines or stack pallets take exactly that approach when they buy a robot arm.

That’s especially true of manufacturers who are the primary targets for the ease-of-use, DIY marketing claims from many robot providers.

Unfortunately, what these manufacturers end up with – for tens of thousands of dollars – is just a robotic arm. It’s a component. An important one, certainly, but the device they need to tend their machine or stack their pallets is a complete robotic system.
