Is spinning off a business a smart move? The ABB case and lessons from other corporate breakups

ABB, one of the world’s largest industrial robotics and automation companies, has announced plans to spin off its “Robotics & Discrete Automation” business into a separate, publicly listed entity.

According to ABB chairman Peter Voser, the move is intended to give the robotics business enhanced focus and agility, enabling it to capitalize on what ABB sees as a $112 billion market opportunity by 2030.

OOMCO awards nine Omani SMEs contracts worth $4 million

Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) has signed agreements with nine Omani small and medium enterprises (SMEs), awarding contracts worth OMR 1.45 million (approximately $3.8 million) across multiple sectors, including logistics, technology, infrastructure, and retail.

The agreements, with durations ranging from one to five years, reaffirm OOMCO’s commitment to supporting local businesses, enhancing In-Country Value (ICV), and contributing to Oman Vision 2040.

Indian robotics company Ati Motors raises $20 million to expand its market

Ati Motors, a developer of AI and autonomous robotics, has closed $20 million Series B investment led by Walden Catalyst Ventures (WCV) and NGP Capital (NGP) with participation from current investors including True Ventures, Exfinity Venture Partners, Athera Venture Partners and Blume Ventures.
