Creating computer games scenes is often a time-consuming job, and requires skills in 3D design applications as well as some coding knowledge.

For a lot of humans, it can be a satisfying and rewarding job, with the average salary of a game designer of approximately $90,000.

But how long before artificial intelligence is able to design scenes for computer games and do the coding as well?  [Read more…] about Game designers face competition from new AI system

harvard wyss Romu

Harvard’s Wyss Institute has unveiled a robot that can build walls. The university says the idea is to have the robot build barriers against floods, among other things. (See video below.)

In a blog post, the Wyss Institute says the robot that can “autonomously drive interlocking steel sheet piles into soil”.

The structures that the robots builds “could function as retaining walls or check dams for erosion control”, it adds.  [Read more…] about Harvard unveils robot that builds walls

US small satellite launch company Rocket Lab is expanding its production to include the in-house designed and built Photon satellite platform.

Whereas the company previously concentrated on launch services, having launched 25 satellites so far, Rocket Lab now delivers an integrated spacecraft build and launch service.

The “end-to-end mission solution” enables small satellite customers to focus on delivering their service from orbit and generating revenue, rather than building their own satellite hardware, says the company.  [Read more…] about Rocket Lab expands into satellite building services

New report warns against taxing robots

There are increasing calls for policymakers to impose taxes on robots and other capital goods based on the faulty analysis that doing so is necessary to raise adequate government revenue, restore labor income, and remove “distortions” in the tax code.

However, a new report from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the world’s leading think tank for science and technology policy, shows that these concerns are illusory and that taxing robots would slow productivity growth, as well as growth in wages and GDP.

Robert Atkinson, ITIF president and author of the report, says: “We need to increase productivity in order to increase wages and spur economic growth. The most important way to do this by encouraging the adoption of new machinery and equipment.  [Read more…] about Robots set for uprising against taxes after taking too many jobs from humans
