Zume Pizza raises $48 million funding for robotic pizza production system

A company which is developing robotic pizza production systems has raised $48 million in funding, according to a report on ZDNet.com. 

The new funding for Zume Pizza follows a previous round, in December, which raised $23 million.

ZDNet says Zume’s system could increase speed and freshness at the same time as reducing labour costs.

According to on Global Times, the Taiwan Semiconductor Association estimated that the output value of the global Semiconductor market in 2017 is expected to grow by 9.8 per cent compared to 2016.

Tesla finding manufacturing tough as it struggles with too many orders

The new Model 3 saloon car from Tesla is way too popular for its own good and the company is struggling to cope with the number of orders it’s being asked to deliver. 

Despite the “bottlenecks” in manufacturing, the electric carmaker says it is on course to sell 100,000 vehicles this year for the first time in its 14-year history.

Google’s new products intensify competition in home automation market, says IHS Markit

New Google Home Mini and Max deepen battle with Amazon at both ends of smart speaker market while Apple’s HomePod faces increasingly competitive environment 

Two new smart speakers were announced at Google’s Pixel 2 smartphone launch event, closing the gap with Amazon in terms of market-penetrating low-end affordability of its smart speakers. 

The first speaker, the $49 Google Home Mini, features a small, rounded, design-neutral form factor, and three color choices.

Yujin Robot awarded patent for system of recognising locations and positions for robotic vacuum cleaner

South Korean robotics and automation company Yujin Robot has been awarded a patent relating to technology that enables mobile robots to pinpoint the locations and positions. 

Awareness of its own precise location within an environment and the location of other objects close by is obviously a crucial requirement of a mobile robot.

Telit and Husqvarna collaborate on robots for urban park sustainability program

Telit, a provider of internet of things technologies, is supplying appliance maker Husqvarna with a wireless sensor device for its city robotic mower pilot program. 

The sensor was co-developed by Telit and Wireless System Integration, a Sweden-based design house developing wireless products and systems.

RIA partners with OSHA and NIOSH to create unpronounceable robot group

The Robotics Industries Association is partnering with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to create a new standards body for robotics and other relevant industries. 

RIA is the main industrial robotics association in the US and was established in 1974.

General Motors reveals autonomous electric mobile platform

General Motors has unveiled a new type of vehicle which the company says is flexible, autonomous and is powered by fuel cell technology – or electric. 

GM says the Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure – Surus, for short – delivers highly mobile autonomous capability and agility in unpredictable terrain.

GM acquires lidar developer Strobe to accelerate driverless car development

General Motors has acquired lidar – light detection and radar – technology company Strobe.

As part of the deal, Strobe’s engineering talent will join GM’s Cruise Automation team to develop next-generation lidar solutions for self-driving vehicles.

ABB shows off its range of electric vehicle charging solutions

As countries all over the world continue to expand their electric vehicle charging infrastructure to cope with increasing consumer and commercial demand, ABB is showcasing its innovative range of solutions at industry event Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition, being held now in Stuttgart.

According to the International Energy Agency, more than 2 million electric cars were on the road worldwide in 2016.

And that number is expected to grow to between 9 and 20 million by 2020.
