Extend Robotics integrates virtual reality to achieve ‘high levels of variability and rapid automation of production’

June 20, 2024 by David Edwards

A new partnership between an industrial parts manufacturer and a virtual reality robotics company is proving that high levels of variability are no obstacle to achieving rapid automation of production.

Founded in 2019 by Dr Chang Liu, Extend Robotics combines consumer virtual reality (VR) technology like Oculus and SteamVR, with artificial intelligence and robotics technology to make it easier for individuals to control robotics hardware remotely.

The company’s aim is to make it easier for people and machines to work together in perfect harmony. [Read more…] about Extend Robotics integrates virtual reality to achieve ‘high levels of variability and rapid automation of production’

Audi virtually tests assembly processes for concept car

August 15, 2019 by Anna

Audi is embracing virtual reality (VR) with the Audi e-tron GT concept car. Using VR glasses and controllers, employees from various departments test all assembly processes entirely virtually.

Audi has developed in-house software for the process, which relies on 360-degree scans that provide a three-dimensional indoor map. The technology is being used for the first time at the Neckarsulm site.

Workflows along the assembly line and the associated logistics processes are being tested in “3P workshops”.  3P stands for the Production Preparation Process, and is used for process validation.
