Baidu DeepWay unveils autonomous truck

DeepWay, a Baidu-backed company, has unveiled Xingtu, a smart new energy heavy-duty truck with a computing power of more than 500 teraflops per second and ultra-long-distance sensing capabilities of more than 1 kilometer.

This launch marks Baidu’s entry into the multi-trillion dollar global freight market.

DFI third-largest in Taiwan’s industrial computer sector

DFI is the third-largest manufacturer of industrial computers in Taiwan, according to new research by TrendForce.

Industrial computers have always been an industry in which Taiwanese manufacturers enjoy an advantage, with a total annual revenue of nearly $8 billion.

According to a research report released by TrendForce in July, in the first half of 2021, DFI, specializing in smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, and intelligent transportation systems/infrastructures, ranked third with a revenue of NT$5.28 billion (equivalent to $186.7 million). Innodisk releases industrial-grade solid-state disks with ‘world’s highest capacity’

Innodisk, a provider of industrial flash and memory solutions, has released its industrial-grade 112-Layer 3D TLC SSDs along with “the world’s highest capacity up to 8TB”.

The 112-layer SSDs introduces a complete product line including the SATA 3TG6-P and 3TE7 series, as well as the PCIe Gen3x4 and Gen4x4 series.

Pandemic drives smart appliance and consumer robotics market revenues to $80 billion in 2021

Consumer robotics and smart appliance vendors will continue to benefit from the boost in consumer spending on home technology in 2021, building on the uplift that started in the second half of 2020.

Global tech market advisory firm ABI Research calculates that the consumer robotics and smart appliance market will generate $80 billion in revenues in 2021, up 40 percent on 2020 revenues.

OrionStar launches ‘Lucki’, the robotic waiter

OrionStar, a service robot solutions company, has launched Lucki, which the company claims is “the world’s first” AI powered, interactive delivery robot designed for restaurants, supermarkets, hospitals and more.

The company says its robot improves delivery efficiency and increases revenue for businesses through customer attraction, dynamic advertising and personalized interactions, offers a Covid-safe contactless delivery, as well as addresses the restaurant and hospitality industry labor shortage.

GE Appliances and Google partner to build ‘next-generation smart home appliances’

GE Appliances, a Haier company, and Google Cloud have agreed a multi-year partnership to build innovative technologies to elevate the consumer experience in the kitchen and in homes.

As the company continues to reinvent itself and the appliance business, GEA turned to Google Cloud for its world-class expertise in data, analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to accelerate this evolution – and will integrate these capabilities into its entire appliance development process, from ideation to the production line.

Baidu launches multi-purpose autonomous minibus

Baidu, the Chinese internet search giant which also has an autonomous vehicle business unit called Apollo, has launched what it describes as “a new generation of multi-purpose autonomous minibuses”. 

Named “Apolong II”, the new vehicles are being rolled out in Guangzhou Huangpu District.

Brodmann17 adds ADAS to Peachtree Corners’ Level 3 autonomous vehicle for real-world smart city testing

Brodmann17 has become the first company to add its technology to Peachtree Corners’ Curiosity Lab’s Level 3 autonomous test vehicle.

Peachtree Corners says it is one of America’s first smart city environments powered by real-world connected infrastructure and 5G.

Central Tuli Game Reserve becomes first ‘Smart Parks system’ in Botswana

The Timbo Afrika Foundation and Smart Parks have implemented the “first Smart Parks system in Botswana”. From now on, African wildlife will be protected in the Central Tuli Game Reserve with smart, advanced technology. Moreover, this enables the relocation and introduction of endangered and disappeared animal species.

The game reserve consists of roughly 70,0000 hectares, partly bought by investor and philanthropist Albert Hartog, who wants to clear the area of old fences and barbed wire to create a “wildlife corridor”.

A free and safe connection between adjacent nature reserves to allow wildlife to walk their original migration routes. During the installation executed by Smart Parks last April, a LoRaWAN network with five gateway installations and several sensors were successfully deployed.
