Autonomous electric truck startup Fernride raises $31 million in Series A funding

Fernride, a German autonomous, electric trucking company, has secured $31 million in Series A funding to accelerate the transition towards automated and sustainable logistics by creating the world’s leading human-machine collaboration technology.

Fernride’s unique approach has already convinced leading industry players such as Volkswagen, DB Schenker, BSH, and HHLA. The company has integrated automated trucks into the productive operations of these enterprises over the past 12 months.

DB Schenker opens giant new automated e-commerce logistics hub in Spain

DB Schenker, a supply chain management and logistics service provider, has started operations at one of the largest automated e-commerce facilities servicing its retail customers in Spain, Portugal and France.

Operations in the 50,000 sq meter state-of-the-art warehouse in Guadalajara have started with 150 employees on newly created jobs, more than 200 robots and an optimized packaging system.

The site is equipped with a Goods-to-Person picking system to handle around 55,000 units per day using Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) provided by Geek+, the global leader in AMR technology. The system features innovative pick-and-pack solutions for a fast and flexible online-order fulfillment and efficiently deal with returns. DB Schenker to open highly automated logistics center in the Czech Republic

DB Schenker, one of the world’s largest logistics service providers, will be opening a new site in the Prague region next year.

The “highly automated” fulfillment warehouse will expand the company’s logistics capacities and shortens delivery times.

Along with retail operations, the new distribution center will also manage B2C e-commerce activities, including an extensive value added services area addressing the demand for personalized products requested by consumers. DB Schenker to operate zero-emission autonomous ship for Ekornes

DB Schenker, one of the world’s leading logistics providers, has revealed plans to operate an innovative zero-emission coastal container feeder in Norway. The fully electric vessel has a unique design, making it the first of its kind in the world.

Having just signed a pre-study agreement, DB Schenker and its co-operation partners – the furniture giant Ekornes and the vessel designer Naval Dynamics, along with Kongsberg and Massterly – have taken the first steps in an ambitious joint project to replace the traditional feeder vessels utilized along the stretch of the Norwegian coastline around Ikornnes and Ålesund.

Gideon launches autonomous forklift for trailer loading and unloading

Gideon, the robotics and AI solutions company, has launched what it describes as “a pioneering new solution” – Trey, an autonomous forklift for truck trailer loading and unloading operations. 

Trey loads and unloads pallets entirely autonomously, saving more than 80 percent of a worker’s time. It operates safely, consistently, and reliably in dynamic environments, working side by side with people.

Gideon Brothers raises $31 million Series A funding for its autonomous mobile robots

Gideon Brothers, a robotics and AI solutions company, today announced it has raised a $31 million Series A investment to accelerate the development and commercialization of its AI and 3D vision-based autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

The company will also expand its manufacturing, sales, marketing, and customer success operations across key markets of the European Union and United States by opening offices in Munich, Germany and Boston, Massachusetts, respectively.

DB Schenker has successfully started operation of its “globally leading regional hub” for automated high-speed logistics.

Worth €101 million, the Red Lion warehouse in Singapore is the single largest investment in any site globally in Schenker’s corporate history.

DB Schenker invests in Volocopter as drone startup builds funds up to €87 million

DB Schenker, a global logistics company, has invested in Volocopter, a startup developing a new type of passenger-carrying drone which can also be used for good distribution.

DB Schenker says its investment shows that it is “a pioneer of urban air mobility”. With the new investment, Volocopter has extended its Series C funding to now a total of €87 million.

Besides DB Schenker, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, MS&AD Ventures, and TransLink Capital (Japan Airlines and Sompo Japan Insurance) join the round as new investors, existing investors Lukasz Gadowski and btov also invested. Porsche selects DB Schenker to operate Canada distribution centre

Porsche Cars Canada has selected DB Schenker to operate its new Mississauga, Ontario parts distribution centre.

Expected to ship about 282,000 orders during its first year in operation, the new facility joins two other DB Schenker-Porsche parts distribution centres that are already operating in China and Korea.
