Niantic Spatial launches two new world models to support real-world AI deployment

April 8, 2026 by Sam Francis

Niantic Spatial has launched two new products aimed at enabling artificial intelligence systems to operate more effectively in physical environments, as companies continue to explore so-called “world models” – AI systems designed to understand and interact with real-world spaces.

The company says its new offerings – Scaniverse for businesses and an updated Visual Positioning System (VPS 2.0) – are intended to address what it describes as a key limitation in current AI development: the lack of accurate, machine-readable maps of the physical world.

While AI systems have advanced rapidly in digital domains, Niantic Spatial argues that much of the global economy – including sectors such as construction, energy, logistics, and manufacturing – remains difficult for AI to access due to the absence of detailed spatial data. Knee Mill vs Bed Mill: Which One Makes More Sense for Precision Manufacturing?

April 8, 2026 by Sam Francis

In precision manufacturing, the decision to produce a part comes down to figuring out the right equipment, not simply using the strongest machine in the shop.

For machine shops faced with this type of hardware selection decision, the endpoint often involves two prevalent vertical milling machine formats: knee mills and bed mills.

These machines both perform fundamental machining operations but differ in mechanical architecture, influencing setup speed, rigidity, and cutting capability. [Read more…] about Knee Mill vs Bed Mill: Which One Makes More Sense for Precision Manufacturing?

How Manufacturers Are Training Their Workforce for AI-Powered Operations

April 7, 2026 by Sam Francis

For the longest time, a large number of manufacturers have struggled to understand how AI can impact their business.

Now, as these businesses have begun to understand where AI can be implemented in their operations, the biggest concern has shifted: [Read more…] about How Manufacturers Are Training Their Workforce for AI-Powered Operations

AI-Driven Brute Force: Why Traditional Rate Limiting is Dead in 2026

April 7, 2026 by Sam Francis

AI-driven brute force is a problem that’s only getting worse. According to a recent study, cyberattacks using AI and ML have risen by 89% year-over-year as of early 2026, with around 11,000 attacks taking place per second.

What’s more, the technology behind these attacks is only improving, and so, while the volume rises, so too does the effectiveness with which these attacks bypass security measures and exploit vulnerabilities. [Read more…] about AI-Driven Brute Force: Why Traditional Rate Limiting is Dead in 2026

OpenAI raises $122 billion as AI infrastructure race accelerates

April 7, 2026 by Sam Francis

OpenAI says it has raised $122 billion in a new funding round, valuing the company at approximately $852 billion, as competition to build large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure intensifies.

The round was backed by a group of major technology and financial firms, including Amazon, Nvidia, SoftBank, and Microsoft, alongside investment firms such as Andreessen Horowitz and TPG.

The company says the funding will be used to expand its infrastructure, develop new AI systems, and scale its products globally. [Read more…] about OpenAI raises $122 billion as AI infrastructure race accelerates

PASCO Marks 50 Years in Industrial Automation

April 7, 2026 by Sam Francis

In 1976, two engineers at Monsanto Corporation saw a problem on the plant floor that needed to be solved. Workers were manually handling heavy 55-gallon drums Their people were handling 400- to 500-pound drums and sustaining frequent injuries. So, the idea was simple. Build a modular palletizer that takes the lifting out of it.

The hydraulic palletizing system that followed used an overhead wiper with cam followers and a stripper plate to efficiently place drums onto pallets automatically placed from a dispenser. And on top of that, it paid for itself within a year or two. These workhorses could last 20 years or more – an obvious good ROI.

From this, the engineers saw a larger market. If Monsanto needed this solution, it was likely that every other manufacturer moving heavy products would need their variation of the solution, too. They quit their jobs and started a company with one fabricator in a garage. [Read more…] about PASCO Marks 50 Years in Industrial Automation

Jurassic bag: From dinosaur DNA to designer goods – how biofabrication and automation could reshape materials

April 7, 2026 by Sam Francis

A luxury handbag made from Tyrannosaurus rex protein sounds like a publicity stunt. In some ways, it is.

But behind the spectacle lies something more significant: a glimpse of how materials themselves may soon be designed, grown, and manufactured through a combination of synthetic biology, artificial intelligence, and automated systems.

The handbag – developed by a collaboration between VML, The Organoid Company, and Lab-Grown Leather – was unveiled at the Art Zoo Museum in Amsterdam, where it is currently on display before auction. Big-D expands construction operations with FieldAI as robotics adoption accelerates

April 7, 2026 by Sam Francis

US construction firm Big-D Construction is expanding its use of robotics across multiple projects through a growing partnership with FieldAI, signaling a broader shift toward autonomous systems on active job sites.

The company, which has been testing FieldAI systems for more than two years, is now moving from pilot deployments to wider operational use, with executives suggesting the technology could become standard across future projects.

“I think the opportunity is that every project will have some representation of FieldAI tools.” That’s Shaun Orr, C-level executive and 25-year veteran at Big-D Construction, describing what he sees as the next phase of adoption. What NLP in Test Automation Actually Means and Why it Matters Now

April 3, 2026 by Sam Francis

Teams talk about NLP – natural language processing – in test automation, yet many still ask what it truly means. They hear about tools that turn plain language into test scripts, but they want clear facts. This topic matters now because software teams face tight release cycles and constant change.

NLP in test automation means software uses natural language processing to turn human-written requirements or test steps into automated tests that machines can run.

It allows teams to write test cases in simple, everyday language instead of complex code. As a result, business analysts, testers, and developers can share the same test logic without deep programming skills. [Read more…] about What NLP in Test Automation Actually Means and Why it Matters Now
