Kollmorgen and ifm partner to improve pallet handling with smart automation

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

Kollmorgen has announced a collaboration with sensor specialist ifm to tackle one of the persistent challenges in warehouses: misaligned pallets disrupting automated workflows.

In many logistics and production sites, manually placed pallets can be slightly off-coordinate, causing problems for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that depend on precise positioning.

These errors can result in failed docking attempts, delays, and reduced productivity. [Read more…] about Kollmorgen and ifm partner to improve pallet handling with smart automation

Sonatus launches AI Director to accelerate in-vehicle edge AI

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

Sunnyvale-based vehicle software company Sonatus has unveiled a new platform designed to help automakers deploy artificial intelligence directly inside vehicles.

The system, called Sonatus AI Director, is billed as a comprehensive toolchain for model training, validation, optimization, and deployment.

Rather than relying solely on cloud-based models, the platform allows carmakers to run AI on existing electronic control units, providing faster response times and lower costs. [Read more…] about Sonatus launches AI Director to accelerate in-vehicle edge AI

Geekplus post-IPO: Warehouse robotics enters the mainstream

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

Geekplus, the Chinese autonomous mobile robot (AMR) specialist, made headlines in July when it listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The company became the first publicly traded AMR warehouse robotics provider, raising HK$2.71 billion (about $350 million) in the process.

Now, three months on, investors and analysts are beginning to weigh in. The company has posted its first set of interim results as a public business, while broker coverage is starting to emerge with bullish targets.

The question is whether the enthusiasm around Geekplus’ debut is matched by fundamentals. [Read more…] about Geekplus post-IPO: Warehouse robotics enters the mainstream

Is ABB making a mistake selling its robotics division?

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

ABB’s decision to sell its robotics business to SoftBank for $5.4 billion raises a fundamental question: why exit one of the few industrial sectors almost universally expected to grow?

The company had previously considered spinning off the division as a standalone business but ultimately opted for a clean sale.

The move may provide ABB with capital to reinvest in its more profitable electrification and automation units, but it also means surrendering a foothold in a market with long-term potential. [Read more…] about Is ABB making a mistake selling its robotics division?

Top 30 Indian robotics companies: Competition, foreign and domestic

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

India is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing manufacturing economies, but it remains under-automated compared with its rivals.

According to the International Federation of Robotics, India installed just over 8,500 industrial robots in 2023, up 59 percent year on year.

That growth is encouraging, but India’s robot density – about 7 units per 10,000 workers – still lags far behind China (392) and South Korea (1,012). [Read more…] about Top 30 Indian robotics companies: Competition, foreign and domestic

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

When Omron opened its new Automation Center in Bengaluru last week, the announcement carried more than just local significance.

It was a statement of intent: India, with its vast (1.5 billion) population, rising manufacturing ambitions (fifth largest manufacturing nation in the world, according to the World Bank), and government support for Industry 4.0, is now firmly on the radar of global robotics and automation companies.

The question is whether India can become the next big market for robotics and automation systems – a kind of “next China” for global industry. [Read more…] about Can India become the next big market for robotics and automation?
