Mitsubishi Electric says its robots are ‘bridging skills gaps’ in automation technology

The global manufacturing landscape is increasingly embracing robotics, as evidenced by a substantial rise in installations worldwide.

According to the World Robotics 2024 Report, over 4.28 million robots are now operating in factories, marking a 10 percent increase, with annual installations surpassing half a million units for the third consecutive year.

This trend reflects not only a growing reliance on robotics to enhance production capabilities but also demonstrates that companies are effectively overcoming key implementation challenges associated with robotics integration. Mitsubishi orders almost 100 autonomous delivery robots from Cartken

Cartken, an autonomous delivery robot company, and Melco Mobility Solutions are expanding their strategic partnership through a new multi-million dollar agreement focused on industrial logistics.

Melco Mobility Solutions is part of the Mitsubishi Electric and a key distributor of their automotive equipment products and operator of mobility solutions.

As part of this collaboration, Melco Mobility Solutions has placed an order for nearly 100 AI-powered Cartken Hauler robots to be deployed across industrial facilities in Japan within this fiscal year.

This latest initiative builds on a longstanding collaboration between the companies. Since 2022, Mitsubishi Electric and Melco Mobility Solutions have served as Cartken’s distributor and operator in Japan, advancing their strategic initiative to expand autonomous robotics as a solution to the country’s growing labor and logistics challenges. Terhoeven unveils ‘world’s first’ fully automated line for reinforcing steel mesh

Terhoeven, also known as Hambi, has unveiled what it claims is “the world’s first fully automated line for reinforcing steel mesh”. The system utilizes drive and automation technology from Mitsubishi Electric.

The construction industry relies heavily on manual labor, particularly in tasks like cutting reinforcing steel mesh.

Mitsubishi Electric launches new lift and escalator company in Laos

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has established MELCO Elevator Lao Sole Co., Ltd. (MLAO) to accelerate its lift and escalator business growth in the highly promising Mekong regional market.

The new company, which was established by Mitsubishi Elevator (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (MET), a Mitsubishi Electric subsidiary, began operations on July 1, 2019.

The new company is expected to strengthen Mitsubishi Electric’s sales of lifts and escalators as well as related provision of high-quality maintenance services.

Mitsubishi Electric takes a stake in Realtime Robotics

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has taken an equity stake in Realtime Robotics, Inc. a U.S. technology startup that develops and commercialises motion-planning technologies.

Motion planning is the process of calculating and determining the optimised path that a robot should take to reach a goal without colliding with any obstacle. Realtime Robotics’ motion path planning solution performs the necessary calculations in real time.

Funding by Mitsubishi Electric is expected to accelerate the development of industrial robot systems offering enhanced safety and performance.

Mitsubishi Electric to set up industrial automation company in the Philippines

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation plans to establish a new company, MELCO Factory Automation Philippines Inc. (MELAP) in the Philippines, to further expand Mitsubishi Electric’s factory automation (FA) business in the country.

MELAP will be jointly established by Mitsubishi Electric, Setsuyo Astec Corporation (STC) and Integrated Factory Automation Inc. (IFA), a FA product distributor and long-time partner of Mitsubishi Electric in the Philippines.

The new company, which will start operating from June 2019, will provide sales and technical service for FA products.

Mitsubishi Electric to build net zero energy building test facility

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation plans to build a new test facility for its broad and integrated portfolio of technologies for net Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB) at its Information Technology R&D Center in Kamakura, Japan.

The facility will accelerate the company’s development, evaluation and demonstration of ZEB technologies to meet the growing demand for buildings that combine comfort and superior energy savings.

Mitsubishi Electric’s ZEB technologies are part of the company’s wide-ranging effort to help achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The new facility, which will cost approximately 3.6 billion yen, is scheduled to start operating in June 2020.

Mitsubishi develops injection-moulded-resin slotted waveguide array antenna

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has developed a slotted waveguide array antenna made of injection-molded resin which have been demonstrated to outperform conventional patch array antenna in side-lobe characteristics, cross-polarisation characteristics and electric power efficiency, as well as offer reduced weight and cost.

The new antenna will enable radar systems to achieve enhanced observation range and accuracy and wireless communication systems to achieve greater communication capacity and speed.

The company will now begin deploying the antenna for various applications, including as weather, airport radar remote-sensing radar and satellite communications.

Mitsubishi Electric sets up Factory Automation Service Centre in Coimbatore, India

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will establish an India Coimbatore FA Centre in Coimbatore, in India’s Tamil Nadu State.

Scheduled to commence operations from February 1, the new facility will further strengthen the service network of the company’s factory automation (FA) products in India and facilitate expansion of its FA system business.

Located in the south of the country, Coimbatore is one of India’s major industrial centres, hosting companies active in the textile, automotive parts and IT sectors, all areas where demand for FA products and their related services is expected to increase.

Mitsubishi Electric to launch CC-Link IE TSN compatible factory automation products

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has announced that it will launch factory automation products that are compatible with CC-Link IE TSN, the world’s first industrial open network to use time sensitive networking (TSN)* technology.

Products include programmable controllers, industrial PCs, servo amplifiers, GOT human-machine interfaces, inverters, and robots.

CC-Link IE TSN supports TSN technology, which ensures real-time control communication on the manufacturing communications layer, even when integrated with the upper level IT system and mixed with other open networks.
