Lenovo and Schneider Electric partner to develop ‘smart green manufacturing’ in China

Lenovo and Schneider Electric agreed a strategic partnership that will see the two companies working together on smart green manufacturing solutions for the flourishing Chinese manufacturing sector.

The partnership was unveiled at Lenovo Tech World, the company’s annual innovation summit, with Lenovo chairman and CEO, Yuanqing Yang and Schneider Electric chairman and CEO, Jean-Pascal Tricoire, there to shake hands on the deal.

Leveraging the strengths of both companies, the strategic partnerships will create powerful synergies by combining Lenovo’s Industrial Internet of Things LeapIOT solution with Schneider Electric’s smart green manufacturing solution based on EcoStruxure. Lenovo and Intel are providing critical components for Harvard University’s first liquid-cooled supercomputer, while Lenovo is creating a ‘Visionary Council’ to drive broad adoption of exascale technology

The new supercomputing infrastructure will enable discoveries in earthquake forecasting, predictions on the spread of disease, and star formation.

China’s largest food delivery company to test robots

China’s largest food delivery company is to test robots, according to a report on Abacus News. 

Meituan employs more than 600,000 delivery drivers across China, and deals with more than 25 million orders a day.

The company is predicting growth of 200 per cent by 2025 and is reportedly testing the delivery robots – called “Xiaodai”, meaning “pouch” – in Beijing and Shenzen. [Read more…] about China’s largest food delivery company to test robots

Lenovo showcases ‘world’s first’ laptop with foldable screen

Computer manufacturer Lenovo is showcasing a preview model of what it claims is “the world’s first foldable” personal computer. In other words, it’s a laptop with a foldable screen.

Unveiled within days of Samsung announcing a recall of its Galaxy Fold smartphone because of technical problems, the new foldable laptop will be part of Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 range.

Lenovo says the “unprecedented portability” of the folding laptop will not compromise productivity and reliability.

Lenovo envisions humans working with bots to create the future

Technology company Lenovo has partnered with IDC to examine the fundamental shifts that will change the concept of work and how it will be done in the next few years.

The IDC InfoBrief, Powering Intelligent Enterprise Transformation, commissioned by Lenovo, reinforces the vision that humans and bots will work together to drive a digital transformation (DX) in the Industry 4.0 era.

In the InfoBrief, IDC and Lenovo set out recommendations on how Asia Pacific enterprises can navigate this workplace transformation seamlessly and take advantage of the new opportunities.

New Infineon chip enables Lenovo to build world’s smallest 3D camera, bringing augmented reality to smartphones

Lenovo is the first manufacturer worldwide to bring Tango technology to a consumer product.

Google’s technology that allows devices to understand spatial information is an exclusive feature in the Phab2 Pro smartphone.

Based on the Time-of-Flight principle, the Real3 image sensor chip from Infineon Technologies equips the smartphone with a 3-dimensional perception of the surroundings in real-time.
