Internet of Things: 5 Predictions for 2025

March 8, 2021 by Polly

If you’ve not heard of or come across the Internet of Things (IoT), it’s time to immerse yourself in the future.

IoT has the potential to be limitless, and although that can be a scary prospect, it could open up a whole new world for us to experience. With technology advancing at such an exponential rate, where can we expect it to be in the next five years? [Read more…] about Internet of Things: 5 Predictions for 2025

One-third of manufacturers planning to move software to the cloud, says IoT Analytics

March 4, 2021 by David Edwards

One-third of manufacturers are planning to move the software they currently use on-site to the cloud, according to research company IoT Analytics.

IoT Analytics, a provider of market insights and competitive intelligence for the internet of things (IoT) and Industry 4.0, surveyed the industrial IoT market and found that almost one-third of manufactures are planning to move their manufacturing execution software to the cloud, significantly boosting the global Cloud MES market growth for the coming years.

Knud Lasse Lueth, CEO at IoT Analytics, says: “Companies are struggling to make use of their data in a meaningful way and use it to create value. Today, a significant portion of this data is ‘dark’ (that is, it is not used for any analysis). Siemens, IBM and Red Hat launch cloud initiative to ‘increase real-time value of industrial data’

February 24, 2021 by David Edwards

Siemens, IBM and Red Hat have launched a new collaboration that will use a hybrid cloud designed to deliver an open, flexible and more secure solution for manufacturers and plant operators to “drive real-time value from operational data”.

In one month, a single manufacturing site can generate more than 2,200 terabytes of data according to a report by IBM – yet most data goes unanalyzed.

Through the joint initiative, Siemens Digital Industries Software will apply IBM’s open hybrid cloud approach, built on Red Hat OpenShift, to extend the deployment flexibility of MindSphere, the industrial internet of things as a service solution from Siemens. What Happens When Cybercriminals Target Industrial Robots?

February 4, 2021 by Polly

Historically, robots were just dumb pieces of programmable machinery that did the same task over and over again. They had virtually no ability to sense their environment. And they certainly couldn’t make decisions for themselves.

With the advent of machine learning and smart systems, that’s all changing. Now designers are imbuing their mechanical appendages with all manner of intelligence. And it’s only getting better.

For economists, these trends are extremely exciting. We could be looking at a future where robots do the vast majority of manual jobs, freeing up labour for other tasks, boosting productivity like nothing else in human history. How to Handle Internet Security Challenges at Home

February 1, 2021 by Polly

The Internet of Things (IoT) benefits so much to your home amenities.

Utilizing smart devices that are linked to the internet, you can get your coffee ready for when you wake up or prepare your oven to warm your dinner up for when you arrive home. But remember that each connected IoT device is also a data collector.

So, unless you desire other people to identify all about the process of your daily routines, you’ll want to defend every device. Home invasions are usually seen in the form of physical break-in type. [Read more…] about How to Handle Internet Security Challenges at Home

Denso unveils new IoT platform to link 130 factories

October 8, 2020 by Elaine

Denso, one of the world’s largest automotive component manufacturers, has launched a Factory-IoT Platform that connects 130 production factories worldwide using information technology and the internet of things technologies, based on the concept of “as if under one roof.”

This is the first in-house development of a cloud-native platform using open-source-software in the automotive supplier industry. Cloud-Native refers to a system development method that uses open-source-software to cooperatively control multiple applications on the premise of operation in the cloud.

Open-source-software is free software that anyone can use. The newly developed platform stores data collected from a range of equipment at various production sites in a single cloud that can be used freely across Denso’s organization network.
