AkzoNobel targets growth in Pakistan as new site takes root

A new €26 million manufacturing plant with its own forest has been opened by AkzoNobel in Faisalabad – the company’s largest investment in Pakistan to date.

The 25-acre site, which has facilities for making decorative paint, wood finishes, automotive and specialty coatings, coil coatings and protective coatings, will help to meet increasing customer demand across a variety of markets.

Also incorporated into the Faisalabad location is a forest spanning an area of 5,450 square feet. More than 1,400 native trees and shrubs – planted using the Japanese Miyawaki gardening technique – are expected to grow into a flourishing self-sustaining ecosystem over the next two years. TSMC and Japanese partners plan to build second semiconductor manufacturing plant

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Sony Semiconductor Solutions, Denso and Toyota have jointly announced further investment into Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing, TSMC’s majority-owned manufacturing subsidiary in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.

The four companies plan to build a second fab, which is scheduled to begin operation by the end of the 2027 calendar year. Toyota will also take a minority stake.

HummingbirdEV to open microfactory for its zero-emission commercial vehicles in UAE

HummingbirdEV, a global provider of advanced commercial vehicle electrification systems, announced today it will establish a new advanced microfactory facility in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The facility will produce HummingbirdEV’s zero-emission commercial vehicles to accelerate adoption of sustainable transportation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Southeast Asia, and India.

HummingbirdEV’s presence in the UAE will enable the company to deliver zero-emission commercial vehicles for an existing e-commerce customer and leverage the country’s free trade agreements with Southeast Asia, India and surrounding MENA markets for further expansion of its customer base. Mitsubishi Electric and Visual Components form joint venture for 3D simulators

Mitsubishi Electric has recently announced that it has partnered with Visual Components headquartered in Espoo, Finland in a joint venture company, named ME Industrial Simulation Software Corporation, to develop and sell 3D simulators for manufacturing applications.

Mitsubishi Electric and Visual Components hold 70 percent and 30 percent stakes respectively in the company, which began operating on November 1.

Premier Design + Build breaks ground to expand manufacturing facility for Sumitomo

Premier Design + Build Group has broken ground on a building expansion project for Sumitomo Drive Technologies in Glendale Heights, Illinois.

The work is designed to meet the evolving needs of the client, whose Midwest-manufactured products are in high demand from customers across a range of industries.

The company’s Glendale Heights location is used for light manufacturing of gearmotors, also known as “speed reducers”. Gearmotors are designed to regulate the speed at which motors run to match the speed needed for a customer’s application. Astrodyne TDI opens ‘cutting-edge manufacturing facility’ in Malaysia

Astrodyne TDI, a manufacturer of power electronics, power distribution units, and EMI filters, has opened its new “state-of-the-art manufacturing facility” in Penang, Malaysia.

This development marks a “significant milestone in our company’s growth and commitment to serving our customers with leading-edge manufacturing capabilities”, it says.

Agility Robotics set to open ‘world’s first factory for humanoid robots’

Agility Robotics, creator of the bipedal humanoid robot Digit, says it is planning to open what it calls “RoboFab”, the company’s robot manufacturing facility in Salem, Oregon with the capability to produce more than 10,000 robots per year.

Initial construction of Agility’s 70,000 square foot robot factory began last year, and it is set to open later this year. Agility anticipates production capacity of hundreds of Digit robots in the first year, with the capability to scale to more than 10,000 robots per year.

At full capacity, RoboFab will employ more than 500 workers in Salem, in addition to employees at Agility’s other locations. Digit also will work in the new factory, in a similar capacity to Agility’s customer sites, moving, loading, and unloading totes.
