April 17, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two futuristic technologies that have taken the world by storm. They are revolutionizing various industries, from gaming and beauty to education and healthcare.

But do you know what’s the coolest thing about them? Face filters apps.

These apps use computer vision and machine learning to apply fun and engaging filters to your face in real time, making you look like anything from a cute puppy to a superhero. [Read more…] about 5 Ways to Build AR & AI Face Filters App

EPHJ trade show returns to bring together industrial high precision in Geneva

September 7, 2021 by David Edwards

After a somewhat “sterile” year in 2020 due to the Covid-related restrictions, the EPHJ Trade Show has done everything to ensure that this 2021 edition, initially postponed for some months, can now be held in the best possible conditions, given the wider public-health backdrop.

This year, the Trade Show will host more than 500 exhibitors at Palexpo. Large numbers of Swiss and international visitors, mainly from neighbouring countries, have already signed up. From small SMEs to sizeable multinationals, no one wants to miss this “return to normal”.

“The convivial and friendly spirit at the EPHJ Trade Show is one of the main factors behind its success”, explains Alexandre Catton, Director of the Trade Show. “Everyone really wants to meet up, reconnect with each other, smile at one other without a screen, have a drink with their clients and do some face to face business.” [Read more…] about EPHJ trade show returns to bring together industrial high precision in Geneva

Manufacturing Masks – Using Your Own Production Facilities

June 10, 2021 by Elaine

The coronavirus pandemic saw the demand for masks skyrocket. Meeting that demand meant finding solutions fast.

The demand for medical face masks has risen particularly steeply. These are not the everyday fabric or “community” masks that keen crafters around the world are now churning out.

Although such face coverings do lower the risk of the wearer passing on the coronavirus to others (source control), they fall short of the stringent requirements in medical and industrial environments, where the wearer needs to be protected from infection and/or pollutants. The robot smiles back: Columbia scientists teach robot how to respond to human facial expressions

May 28, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Columbia Engineering researchers use AI to teach robots to make appropriate reactive human facial expressions, an ability that could build trust between humans and their robotic co-workers and care-givers. (See video below.)

While our facial expressions play a huge role in building trust, most robots still sport the blank and static visage of a professional poker player.

With the increasing use of robots in locations where robots and humans need to work closely together, from nursing homes to warehouses and factories, the need for a more responsive, facially realistic robot is growing more urgent.
