Volkswagen and Uber partner to launch autonomous vehicles in the US

May 20, 2025 by Sam Francis

Volkswagen Group of America’s autonomous mobility subsidiary, Volkswagen ADMT, and Uber Technologies, have agreed a strategic partnership to deploy a fleet of thousands of all-electric, fully autonomous ID Buzz AD vehicles within multiple US markets over the next decade, starting in Los Angeles.

Testing is expected to begin later this year, with the first commercial launch expected in Los Angeles in 2026.

During the initial testing and launch phases, ID Buzz AD vehicles will have human operators onboard to help refine the technology and ensure safety. Each step will proceed only after any necessary regulatory approvals have been received. [Read more…] about Volkswagen and Uber partner to launch autonomous vehicles in the US

Levels of intelligence: Navigating the future of AI, from robotic arms to autonomous cars

May 17, 2025 by Mai Tao

Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic fantasy; it’s rapidly becoming an integral part of our daily lives, from the smartphones in our pockets to the complex systems powering industries.

As AI capabilities expand and grow more sophisticated, so does the need to understand and categorize these evolving forms of intelligence.

The concept of “levels of AI” offers a framework to discuss capabilities, manage our expectations, address safety concerns, and potentially guide regulation. [Read more…] about Levels of intelligence: Navigating the future of AI, from robotic arms to autonomous cars

US government launches new plan to beat China in the autonomous vehicles race

April 26, 2025 by Mark Allinson

The US government has unveiled a new plan or “framework” to beat China in the autonomous vehicle race.

Sean P. Duffy, US Secretary of Transportation, announced the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) new Automated Vehicle (AV) Framework as part of his transportation innovation agenda.

The new framework will “unleash American ingenuity, maintain key safety standards, and prevent a harmful patchwork of state laws and regulations”, according to Duffy. [Read more…] about US government launches new plan to beat China in the autonomous vehicles race

SAE International launches 12-week robotics for autonomous vehicle systems training ‘Bootcamp’

April 14, 2021 by Elaine

Virtual 12-week experience provides career development opportunities for engineers entering the fast-growing autonomous vehicles industry

SAE International has announced the new 12-week Robotics for Autonomous Vehicle Systems Bootcamp for recent graduates and/or entry-level mechanical, electrical and computer science engineers joining the industry to support autonomous vehicle (AV) system development.

In partnership with Clemson University and Argo AI, SAE designed the rigorous, virtual-only workforce development experience to provide participants with an in-depth technical understanding of how to build autonomous systems.

“Companies can spend upwards of 10 months onboarding entry-level AV positions, which in this fast-moving industry can directly hinder the development and deployment cycles. The Robotics for Autonomous Vehicle Systems Bootcamp aims to support both employers and professionals by bridging the training gap through an accelerated 12-week bootcamp,” said Elizabeth Melville, director of learning at SAE International. Mercedes-Benz pioneers new automated driving software

October 30, 2020 by Liv

Mercedes-Benz stands out among its competitors in the race for autonomy in one important way, reports the Economic Times – in its reliance on its own engineers (rather than the general public) to validate its new advanced driver assistance system.

Most recently, the German firm announced that it has developed a similar system to Tesla’s Fully Self Driving Software. This system is currently being tested and promises to reduce accident rates in a dramatic way, since computers have an ability to react to road hazards much faster than human beings do.

What features does this system promise and when is it likely to appear on public roads? [Read more…] about Mercedes-Benz pioneers new automated driving software

How Smartphones Can Impact Autonomous Vehicles

June 30, 2020 by Polly

With the recent advancements in technology, the world is expecting more impressive breakthroughs in the future.

Even though some of the major tech companies around the world have been experimenting with driverless technology, and a couple have also released vehicles that offer users the feature, it still needs more improvements.

The changes in traffic can lead to much safer and more organized roads, as the steering wheels will be replaced with technology. [Read more…] about How Smartphones Can Impact Autonomous Vehicles

6 Ways Autonomous Vehicles Will Impact Life As We Know It

June 22, 2020 by Polly

In 2015, Google, under Alphabet Inc, produced the first autonomous (self-driving) car, and today we have more than 19 autonomous parts manufacturers in the world. In the US, automated vehicles have already started roaming the streets and integrated with self-driven cars.

Based on that, researchers have moved from wondering if these cars should exist to observe how they potentially impact cities and their residents if all vehicles become autonomous. Additionally, it’s been estimated that by 2035, 10 percent of road vehicles will be autonomous, and by 2050, that number will increase significantly to over 50 percent. This will, no doubt, impact life as we know it.

In this article, we will further examine the ways autonomous vehicles will impact our lives, from little things all the way to the big ones. [Read more…] about 6 Ways Autonomous Vehicles Will Impact Life As We Know It

The Future for Contactless Delivery

May 27, 2020 by Polly

By D. A. Rupprecht

The future for contactless product delivery is already here, and a pandemic seems to already be moving this trend forward.

It just needs companies to implement and customers to accept the new delivery and tracking methods, along with other innovations, that will make this so.

When this happens, we may one day look back and quietly thank the lowly coronavirus for catapulting us into a brighter future. [Read more…] about The Future for Contactless Delivery
