Roborock unveils robotic vacuum cleaner with arm at CES

January 6, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Roborock, a provider of home robotics, used the ongoing CES event to launch the Saros Z70, which it describes as “the world’s first mass-produced robot vacuum cleaner equipped with an OmniGrip intelligent and foldable robotic arm”.

And at first glance, I thought, “Why didn’t I think of that? It’s a brilliant idea.”

The innovation is similar to what is called an industrial mobile robot, where an autonomous mobile robot is fitted with a collaborative robotic arm. [Read more…] about Roborock unveils robotic vacuum cleaner with arm at CES

Autonomous snow-clearing vehicles: Solutions for winter’s challenges

January 6, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Regardless of whether you believe in “global warming” or the various outlandish claims some environmentalists make, me personally, I’ve noticed that, over the course of my lifetime, the weather has become more and more crazy.

I don’t think the mainstream news media covers the subject enough, preferring to cover the never-ending wars that repeatedly flare up here and there with the same kind of regularity that they did in biblical times.

Living in the UK, I’ve noticed that the north of England is often inundated with water because of unexpected and unprecedented flooding, or trashed by gale force winds that tear down fences and gates in the middle of the night, or snow that blankets entire towns and airports.

And yet, the news media – which is mostly based in the south, specifically London – appears to be oblivious to it all, preferring to keep their cameras on the dances of death by the current generation of warlords around the world. Foxconn and Nvidia agree partnership to develop humanoid robots

January 4, 2025 by Mark Allinson

In a significant move that could reshape the entire robotics industry going forward, Taiwanese contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision, better known as Foxconn, has agreed a strategic partnership with the world’s largest computer chip maker, Nvidia, to develop advanced humanoid robots.

This is according to a report on a Taiwanese news website, which appears to have got the information from Foxconn’s head honcho, the Hon Hai chairman himself, Young Liu.

This collaboration aims to combine Foxconn’s extensive manufacturing expertise and Nvidia’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to create robots capable of performing complex tasks across various industries. Robots are forever: How a robot diamond cutter could change a market already disrupted by lab-grown diamonds

January 3, 2025 by David Edwards

About six years ago, the Scientific and Technical Research Center for Diamonds, in Antwerp, Belgium, demonstrated a highly sophisticated robotic system that can automatically cut or polish diamonds in a fraction of the time it takes the most experienced human diamond cutter to do it by hand – “10 to 20 times faster”, according to its makers.

Called the “Fenix” robot, the system is incredibly well designed and it’s no surprise that it generated a lot of interest. So much so that a company called HS Technology, based in the United States, ended up acquiring the entire organisation – it bought the Scientific and Technical Research Center for Diamonds.

Not much was heard about Fenix after that, but the latest is that HD Blueprint, a company specialising in the development of diamond cutting and polishing technologies, now owns the company and machine. Is the eVTOL market dead? We take a high-level look

January 2, 2025 by David Edwards

Here at RoboticsAndAutomationNews.com Towers, we love to let readers know about completely new technologies that are opening up entirely new and unpredicted markets – or at least ones we hadn’t thought about here.

I mean, things like the electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs) – small, light aircraft about the size of a car designed to carry around four passengers over short distances. eVOTLs have been subject of much hype over the past few years.

We’ve been part of that hype in the sense that we have covered the market extensively even though, strictly speaking, it probably doesn’t come within our subject area of robotics and automation – we have to stretch the meaning somewhat anyway. Can humanoid robots solve problems in warehousing?

December 30, 2024 by David Edwards

By Heico Sandee, founder and CEO of Smart Robotics

In the past, automation was perceived primarily as a remedy for labor shortages; today, that’s no longer the case.

Warehouse automation has undergone bouts of evolution, each time becoming more advanced, sophisticated, and integrated into a broader ecosystem of human and machine collaboration.

The humanoid robot market is projected to grow from $2.03 billion in 2024 to $13.25 billion by 2029, at a compound annual growth rate of 45.5 percent, reflecting the increasing demand for intelligent systems capable of transforming industries. How manufacturing leaders can thrive when entering new markets

December 22, 2024 by David Edwards

By Shinichiro Nakamura, president of one to ONE Holdings

Global expansion accounts for more than half of all corporate growth in the past decade. So, it’s no surprise that manufacturers continue to penetrate new markets.

This wider globalization trend is largely driven by the rise of emerging markets, sustainability efforts, and localizing production based on resources.

However, entering new markets is easier said than done, particularly when facing hurdles such as regulations, tariffs, talent shortages, different cultures, and limited technology. [Read more…] about How manufacturing leaders can thrive when entering new markets

How to Effortlessly Manage IT Assets with the Right Tools?

December 20, 2024 by David Edwards

Even an average person, let alone an entrepreneur or a specialist, heavily relies on several digital tools. Sure, there’s a tool or two that you use regularly, but for a lot of them, subscriptions may be quite complex.

While some subscriptions are made monthly, others require paying for a quarter or a full year upfront. Even if they don’t require it, they might incentivize you by offering you a significantly better deal.

So, you paid last fall, but did you pay in October or November? If this happened a year ago, chances are that you just don’t know. [Read more…] about How to Effortlessly Manage IT Assets with the Right Tools?
