Privacy in the Age of Automation: Strategies to Control Your Google Data

July 16, 2025 by David Edwards

We can all agree that technology puts people at higher risk of identity theft, data exploitation, and losing custody of their digital lives.

One option for individuals who want to take control of their online presence is to manage what information appears online, recognizing that while physical removal and setting adjustments are helpful, they are often only temporary solutions. Shenzhen’s ‘penguin’ robots ride the metro to restock shops in world-first delivery test

July 16, 2025 by David Edwards

In a global first for urban logistics, a fleet of penguin-shaped delivery robots has begun using Shenzhen’s metro system as part of an integrated supply chain, marking a new milestone in automated goods distribution.

Developed by VX Logistics, a subsidiary of China’s Vanke Group, the autonomous robots were tested on Monday on Shenzhen Metro Line 2. The robots boarded a train at Wanxia Station, rode alongside passengers, and exited at their destinations to deliver goods to shops inside metro stations – without any human assistance.

The pilot project stands out not only for its novelty but for how it redefines the role of robots in supply chains. While delivery robots in the US and Europe are typically limited to short-range “last mile” use cases – navigating sidewalks to deliver food or parcels – Shenzhen’s system integrates robots into the existing metro infrastructure, enabling what could be called “middle-mile” automation. Custom chips are taking over: Why AI, autonomy, and communications can’t rely on general-purpose silicon anymore

July 15, 2025 by David Edwards

By Mike Kappes, founder and CSO of NEXT Semiconductor Technologies

The universal law of competitive engineering rewards any design that moves more data with less energy and cost. Every advancement in computing hardware has followed that path, and the next innovation now depends on application-specific silicon.

While general-purpose processors were sufficient for computing in the early decades of the digital age, the leading companies in AI, self-driving technology, and telecommunications now find that these readily available components can no longer meet their performance requirements. Custom chips now set the pace, cost, and capability. [Read more…] about Custom chips are taking over: Why AI, autonomy, and communications can’t rely on general-purpose silicon anymore

Mujin establishes global executive team to accelerate expansion of MujinOS

July 15, 2025 by David Edwards

Mujin, the pioneer of intelligent robotics, has established a “Global Leadership Cabinet” (GLC) to unify its operations worldwide and drive the commercial expansion of its flagship platform, MujinOS.

The GLC will align technology, product, sales, and governance functions across all regions, positioning the company for its next phase of growth and long-term strategic plans.

At the heart of MujinOS is a real-time digital twin, a continuously updating model of a robotics system’s physical environment, forming the core of machine intelligence. This no-code technology allows robots to plan and adapt in real-time without the need to directly program behaviors. China achieves ‘97 percent mechanization rate in cotton farming’ through robotics

July 14, 2025 by David Edwards

In China’s top cotton-growing region, Xinjiang, the path to full mechanization begins with a seed.

Xinjiang, which accounts for more than 90 percent of the country’s cotton output, has surpassed a 97 percent mechanization rate in cotton farming.

This was achieved in large part through the use of robotics, such as the one jointly developed by Xinjiang University and EAVision Robotic Technologies (EAVision). [Read more…] about China achieves ‘97 percent mechanization rate in cotton farming’ through robotics

Toyota Research Institute unveils breakthrough in Large Behavior Models that requires ‘80 percent less data’

July 14, 2025 by David Edwards

Toyota Research Institute (TRI) has unveiled promising results from a large-scale study on a new class of AI systems called Large Behavior Models (LBMs), which could significantly accelerate the development of general-purpose robots capable of adapting to real-world tasks.

The research, published today, shows that a single LBM can learn hundreds of manipulation tasks and apply that knowledge to new challenges with up to 80 percent less data compared to traditional approaches.

This marks a potential shift in how robots are trained, enabling them to generalize from diverse experiences rather than being hardcoded for specific tasks. [Read more…] about Toyota Research Institute unveils breakthrough in Large Behavior Models that requires ‘80 percent less data’

Clean Cuts, Smarter Builds: How Laser Cutting Enhances Robotics and Automation

July 14, 2025 by David Edwards

Robotics and automation are only as precise as the tools that support them. As factories become smarter and systems more integrated, the need for ultra-accurate components continues to grow.

That’s where laser cutting steps in – not just as a tool, but as a foundational part of modern fabrication. Whether it’s shaping the housing of a robotic arm or customizing parts for industrial machines, laser cutting delivers speed, precision, and adaptability in ways that traditional methods often can’t match. MMI’s robotic microsurgery system integrates two new technologies

July 14, 2025 by David Edwards

Medical Microinstruments, a robotics company developing increasing treatment options and improving clinical outcomes for patients with complex conditions, has revealed details of “the first clinical use of two new technologies that expand the potential of robotic-assisted microsurgery: the NanoWrist dissection instruments and the Synaptix Digital Surgery Platform”.

Performed by The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London, a leading cancer center, the case marks a significant milestone in the evolution of robotic-assisted microsurgery, enabling precise tissue dissection and integrated digital workflow for the first time with the Symani Surgical System.

The NanoWrist dissection instruments include scissors and forceps and are the world’s first fully wristed robotic instruments designed specifically for dissection in open microsurgery. [Read more…] about MMI’s robotic microsurgery system integrates two new technologies
