Kuka wins order for 700 robots from Ford Otosan

January 27, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Industrial robotics and automation specialist Kuka has won an order from Ford Otosan in Turkey for the delivery and installation of a very large number of robots.

The two companies have signed a new framework contract for supplying more than 700 robots for Ford’s next generation electrical and connected commercial vehicle projects in Ford’s plants in Kocaeli, in the north-east of Turkey, just south of Istanbul.

Kuka says the contract marks a continuation of the companies’ partnership which has been in place for more than 20 years. [Read more…] about Kuka wins order for 700 robots from Ford Otosan

Comau creates high-volume electric drive assembly line for Geely to ‘double its automation rate’

January 25, 2022 by David Edwards

Comau has developed and implemented an automated electric vehicle drive assembly line for Geely Automobile, one of China’s largest automakers, at the Geely Veremt plant in Ningbo, China.

The assembly line is specifically created for the end-to-end assembly of the electric motor, gearbox and inverter.

Designed in close collaboration with the Geely team, the complete line uses a flexible automatic production system to assemble the permanent magnet motor rotors, gearboxes and electronics drives, in addition to automated quality control and testing. Metal Nameplates: What Are Their Uses?

January 24, 2022 by David Edwards

Metal nameplates are widely used in home appliances, machinery, electronic products, and other fields. They can also be used as metal labels on machines to ensure that equipment is used correctly. In addition, information for safety guidelines, asset tracking, or manufacturing data can be embedded in them.

The metals that are used often include iron, stainless steel, aluminum, zinc alloy, tin, copper, and more. The plates can be created through methods such as etching, printing, stamping, electroplating, drop plastic, wire drawing, and other processes.

You can have customized nameplates made and designed according to your specifications. Metal Marker Manufacturing provides more information about metal nameplates and how you can have yours made with custom specifications. [Read more…] about Metal Nameplates: What Are Their Uses?

Why is CNC Machining Essential to the Robotics Industry?

January 18, 2022 by Mark Allinson

There is an increasing need for robots in all industrial areas. Thanks to technological advancements, robots are not ideas that exist only in movies.

These days, you can find robots everywhere, from airports to factories. Many manufacturing companies use robots due to their efficacy and speed in performing complex tasks.

Moreover, a robot will cost you less than how much you would pay for manual labor. All you need to do is provide effective servicing that will ensure the structure and functioning of your robot stays operational. [Read more…] about Why is CNC Machining Essential to the Robotics Industry?

Some useful tips on how to use a tubing bender

January 14, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Tubing benders are quite simple, and also a rather convenient tool that can provide consistent and accurate bends on a wide range of tubes, including steel tubes, copper tubes, and aluminum-based tubes.

There are many automated tube benders that can be electrically or hydraulically powered, as well. However, these machines are often bulky and may not be suitable for use in areas that do not have the appropriate power connections.

Manual tube and pipe benders are a good option in these cases, though. The majority of manual tubing benders can bend pipes and tubes up to 180 degrees at most. [Read more…] about Some useful tips on how to use a tubing bender

Flame Cutting, Plasma Cutting, and Waterjet Cutting – Differences

January 6, 2022 by Mark Allinson

There are many options for metal cutting when you need it cut to size. Not all processes will work for every job and every type of metal.

You may choose to use flame cutting or plasma cutting for your project. However, it is important that you understand the differences between these cutting methods. [Read more…] about Flame Cutting, Plasma Cutting, and Waterjet Cutting – Differences

Automating cricket ball production: Global cricket ball manufacturer uses automation with a vision system for efficiency and upskilling

December 30, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Under the laws of cricket, it is illegal for players to rub any substance other than saliva and sweat onto the ball, let alone scuffing it with their fingernails. Similarly, strict rules apply to the manufacturing of cricket balls.

Here’s how cricket ball manufacturer Kookaburra designed its first ever machine tending robotic system to produce the perfect ball, with the help of industrial robot supplier, TM Robotics and MAP Services, Australian partner for TM Robotics and Shibaura Machine.

Machine tending is repetitive work. The job of loading and unloading machines with parts or materials are usually done by humans. In the production of cricket balls, workers would place covers – the outside leather of cricket balls – onto trays after being pressed into shape to form half of a cricket ball. These trays are then placed into a rack and moved to the next process – trimming excess leather from the pressed cover.
