Hanwha to invest $5 billion into shipbuilding in Philadelphia

Hanwha Group has announced a $5 billion infrastructure plan for Hanwha Philly Shipyard as part of South Korea’s commitment to supporting growth of the US shipbuilding industry through a $150 billion investment fund.

The announcement was made in time for the christening of a new training vessel, the US Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) third National Security Multi-mission Vessel (NSMV).

The naming ceremony, which took place at Hanwha Philly Shipyard, was attended by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, the First Lady, and other senior officials. Foundation Alloy and Re:Build Manufacturing form engineering partnership to ‘fast-track scale-up and automation’

Foundation Alloy, an advanced-materials company that says it is “reinventing metals production for US industry”, is excited to announce a strategic collaboration with Re:Build Manufacturing. 

The partnership centers on engineering and process development support as Foundation Alloy ramps up production of high-performance metals using its proprietary MetalsFirst manufacturing platform.

Toto opens $224 million manufacturing facility in Georgia to ‘increase luxury toilet production capacity by 150 percent’

Toto, one of the world’s leading plumbing manufacturers with over $5.34 billion in annual sales, has opened a $224 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Morrow, Georgia.

The new facility marks a major investment in the company’s Americas growth strategy, enabling faster delivery of strategic high-end one-piece toilets to meet surging market demand.

To achieve this, Toto is shifting more production from Asia-based Toto Group plants to North America, strengthening its regional supply chain, enhancing manufacturing resilience, and advancing its long-term sustainability goals. Hyundai increases investment in American manufacturing to $26 billion

Hyundai Motor Group has announced a significant increase in investment to $26 billion in the United States, reinforcing its long-term commitment to innovation, jobs creation, and sustainable growth across key industries.

This investment will be made between 2025 and 2028, significantly expanding the group’s footprint in the US market.

How a WW2-era factory is cutting production time by 80 percent

Inside a compact production cell at Collins Aerospace’s wheel-and-brake facility in Troy, Ohio, two advanced machines now replace the five legacy machines once needed to produce aircraft wheels.

Together, they can cut production time from 45 days to just seven – a push the team calls “Wheels in a Week.”

Kia launches electric vehicle production in Europe with the EV4

Kia has started series production of its new model – the five-door Kia EV4, which is the South Korean automotive manufacturer’s first fully electric vehicle to be manufactured in Europe.

The start of production follows extensive updates to Kia’s sole European manufacturing facility in Slovakia and represents a major step forward in Kia’s electrification strategy for the region.

Toyota to establish new vehicle manufacturing plant in Japan

Toyota Motor Corporation says it plans to acquire land in the Teihoucho area of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, to establish a new vehicle manufacturing plant.

Operations at the new plant are planned to start in the early 2030s, with production models to be determined in the future.

MIT launches new initiative to ‘transform US manufacturing’ with AI and automation

“Manufacturing is the engine of society, and it is the backbone of robust, resilient economies,” says John Hart, head of MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering (MechE) and faculty co-director of the MIT Initiative for New Manufacturing (INM).

“With manufacturing a lively topic in today’s news, there’s a renewed appreciation and understanding of the importance of manufacturing to innovation, to economic and national security, and to daily lives.”

Launched this May, INM will “help create a transformation of manufacturing through new technology, through development of talent, and through an understanding of how to scale manufacturing in a way that enables imparts higher productivity and resilience, drives adoption of new technologies, and creates good jobs,” Hart says. GE Appliances to make ‘historic’ $3 billion investment into its US manufacturing operations

GE Appliances, now a Haier company, has unveiled a “bold plan” to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years in its US operations, workforce and communities.

This “historic” investment deepens GE Appliances’ commitment to technology development, product innovation and advanced manufacturing.

Rolls-Royce invests an additional $75 million into its US manufacturing facilities

Rolls-Royce, one of the world’s most celebrated makers of luxury cars, is expanding its US manufacturing capabilities with a $75 million investment in its Aiken, South Carolina engine plant for MTU Series 4000 production.

The MTU Series 4000 is a versatile and powerful engine series produced by Rolls-Royce Solutions (formerly MTU Friedrichshafen). It’s actually meant for ships. Rolls-Royce also makes engines for aircraft.

The new investment will increase machining capabilities and grow the facility’s footprint, creating 60 new jobs in the United States with a total of 434 full-time positions at the facility. The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project.
