AI Enabled Robots are Coming

November 11, 2020 by Elaine

By Michael Frankland, Business Consultant – Factory Automation, Pivot Search

We’ve entered a new age of automation: the artificially intelligent robots are coming.
When AI enabled robots hit the manufacturing mainstream, the implications will be huge.

With the right combination of hardware, robotics will have an application in manufacturing for nearly every industry. Processes will become quicker, more accurate and more cost-effective.

Robotics in Manufacturing

The first thing to note is that when we talk about robotics within this article, we are referring to a physical piece of hardware without the ability ‘to think’ for itself, usually due to a lack of appropriate software and/or hardware.

Right now, most industrial robots are not artificially intelligent and are only programmed to carry out a repetitive series of movements, usually within a caged environment separated from humans. [Read more…] about AI Enabled Robots are Coming

Nord Modules Fully Automates Material Handling

October 28, 2020 by Elaine

Nord Modules has announced the Quick Mover 180, which it is calling the most flexible and easy-to-deploy top module to enable autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to perform multiple material handling tasks. When coupled with Nord’s automated load-transfer gates with collaborative robot (cobot) arms, the space-efficient QM180 creates the first fully autonomous material handling system, with material flowing seamlessly from production lines to the AMR to the warehouse. This autonomy—along with the QM180’s speed, space and flexibility benefits—optimizes logistics, increases productivity, lowers overall costs and delivers a superior return on investment.

With a single top module, the QM180 handles a plethora of materials—gates, half pallets, plastic boxes, carton boxes, carts and cobot solutions. Without changing top modules, this unmatched flexibility gives manufacturers the ability to: [Read more…] about Nord Modules Fully Automates Material Handling
