Startup uses ‘industrial origami’ technique to build electric motorbikes

April 23, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Swedish technology and design startup STILRIDE is to produce sustainable electric motorcycles and scooters using a groundbreaking manufacturing process dubbed “industrial origami”.

The trailblazing technique involves robots which are able to fold single sheets of recyclable steel into intricate, lightweight and durable new structures – significantly reducing the environmental impact of production.

This process is being used to create the chassis for a fleet of next-generation e-motorcycles which will be made available to consumers in Europe later this year. [Read more…] about Startup uses ‘industrial origami’ technique to build electric motorbikes

Scientists unveil robotic grippers ‘delicate enough to lift egg yolks and precise enough to lift a human hair’

February 1, 2022 by Mai Tao Leave a Comment

Engineering researchers from North Carolina State University have demonstrated a new type of flexible, robotic grippers that they say “are able to lift delicate egg yolks without breaking them, and that are precise enough to lift a human hair”. (See video below.)

The work has applications for both soft robotics and biomedical technologies.

The work draws on the art of kirigami, which involves both cutting and folding two-dimensional (2D) sheets of material to form three-dimensional (3D) shapes. [Read more…] about Scientists unveil robotic grippers ‘delicate enough to lift egg yolks and precise enough to lift a human hair’

Scientists use ‘swarmalation’ to design active materials for self-regulating soft robots

March 19, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

During the swarming of birds or fish, each entity coordinates its location relative to the others, so that the swarm moves as one larger, coherent unit.

Fireflies on the other hand coordinate their temporal behavior: within a group, they eventually all flash on and off at the same time and thus act as synchronized oscillators.

Few entities, however, coordinate both their spatial movements and inherent time clocks; the limited examples are termed “swarmalators”, which simultaneously swarm in space and oscillate in time. How to Get Your Aluminium Sheets Manufactured Quickly

September 15, 2020 by Polly Leave a Comment

The hand railings you hold on, the ships you ride on, and the bolt that protects your valuable things will not be possible without aluminum sheets. It is the widely used materials in various places like construction sites, shipbuilding, mining, electric power, and more. If it wasn’t for it, your life might be different.

Hence, it is an essential material in society. Beautiful buildings, houses, cars, infrastructures, and more will not be possible without it. Therefore, everyone loves it.

If you also want it in building a home, inventing a home appliance, making utensils, and more, the following are ways of how you can get your aluminum sheets manufactured quickly. [Read more…] about How to Get Your Aluminium Sheets Manufactured Quickly

Goudsmit Magnetics improves its gripper for picking up sheet metal

October 2, 2019 by Sam Francis

Goudsmit Magnetics has unveiled its new and improved magnetic gripper for the automated pick-up, placement or positioning of steel or other ferromagnetic objects.

The company says the end effector is ideal for removing sheet metal from presses, de-stacking products from boxes (bin picking), assembling steel parts or handling of punched steel parts, blanks and perforated steel sheets in robotic applications.

The ultralight magnetic gripper is fitted with strong permanent neodymium magnets and is therefore extra safe. It can be used in grippers on robot arms. [Read more…] about Goudsmit Magnetics improves its gripper for picking up sheet metal
