Interview with Digid’s Nils Könne and Christian Kreil: Nanoscale sensors could help solve robotics’ tactile sensing challenge

June 22, 2026 by Sam Francis

The rapid rise of artificial intelligence and robotics has focused attention on software, large language models, and increasingly powerful processors.

But for robots to operate effectively in the physical world, they also need something much more fundamental: the ability to sense and understand their environment.

That challenge is creating growing interest in advanced sensing technologies capable of providing machines with far richer information about the world around them. Sensory Robotics says ‘the end of robotic cages starts now’

June 2, 2026 by Sam Francis

A University of Cincinnati 1819 Innovation Hub corporate partner, Sensory Robotics, says it has “broken through the fence line with a next-generation safety solution”.

Their flagship technology, the SR-1 system, is designed to be installed in and integrated with existing industrial robots, setting a new benchmark for how robots can safely transform into cobots and operate alongside humans.

Sensory Robotics, through UL certification, ensures the safety of their technology to work alongside humans and heavy robots with no restrictions on payload, reach, or speed. [Read more…] about Sensory Robotics says ‘the end of robotic cages starts now’

Gecko Robotics tests Ouster’s next-generation color lidar to enhance AI-powered infrastructure inspections

May 22, 2026 by Sam Francis

Ouster, a specialist in sensing and perception technologies for physical AI, has announced that Gecko Robotics, a provider of advanced robotics and AI-powered software, is leveraging Ouster’s new Rev8 digital lidar sensors to integrate novel data layers into its Cantilever operating platform.

Gecko Robotics currently utilizes Ouster’s digital lidar to navigate complex industrial environments and create high-fidelity digital twins of critical assets.

As Gecko continues to scale its Cantilever operating platform, Ouster’s new Rev8 sensor suite offers an opportunity to further enhance Gecko’s data capture and push the boundaries of its “detect and repair” missions.
