The Digital Transformation of Small Businesses

November 17, 2020 by David Edwards

Digital transformation in the form of technologies, marketing, and data is necessary for businesses to remain relevant in the competitive and ever-changing market.

Recently, word out there is that digital processes override traditional processes. For most small-scale businesses, digitizing their companies can seem intimidating given that most of them operate with a small budget.

When expanding internationally, it can be challenging for small businesses to hire and manage employees abroad. [Read more…] about The Digital Transformation of Small Businesses

Robotics market sees accelerated growth amid e-commerce boom

November 12, 2020 by David Edwards

By Steve Richmond, director of logistics systems, Jungheinrich

New use cases for robotics are being identified almost daily. The rapid growth of e-commerce, fuelled in part by necessity from Covid-19 lockdowns, has meant that for many organisations, the requirements for staff and goods is growing at a rate too fast to meet demand – the need for automation is now greater than ever.

With technology advancing rapidly, almost anything can now be automated. And with intelligent navigation and precise picking technology, even items of an odd size, shape or material can be handled by robots.

As this technology becomes increasingly more sophisticated, enabling robots to perform roles with accuracy, consistency and safety front of mind, this has also advanced the ability for robots to communicate with other robots around the facility. Cisco releases two new IoT sensor solutions

November 5, 2020 by David Edwards

Cisco has unveiled two new cloud-managed sensor solutions that the company says can help businesses simplify asset and facility monitoring across their organizations, from indoor IT closets to outdoor Operation Technology (OT) spaces at scale.

Many businesses today operate in commercial buildings with limited capacity and are supporting a growing mobile workforce. It is critical for business operators to have actionable data from their office space and assets to better manage network equipment performance and maintenance.

Remote monitoring using IoT sensors offers a list of benefits to help improve efficiencies including employee safety by preventing unnecessary site visits and equipment checks, reducing network outages and downtime and reducing costs for premature equipment failure. Innovation in Times of Crisis: What Does the Future Hold for Automation?

September 17, 2020 by Polly

The Covid-19 pandemic isn’t letting up any time soon. Countries which have relaxed their lockdown measures following a decrease in the number of positive cases are now experiencing a resurgence in numbers of confirmed infections.

Governments are already planning to reintroduce restrictions to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus, which has claimed the lives of over 800,000 people worldwide.

As this global crisis continues to challenge economic sustainability, the business landscape has to adapt to new methods and tools in order to stay afloat. Sure enough, this crisis has opened up new spaces for discussing genuine innovation. [Read more…] about Innovation in Times of Crisis: What Does the Future Hold for Automation?

The Robots Are Here to Stay: How Automation is Affecting Global Business

August 10, 2020 by Polly

Robots are shaking up different aspects of the modern business world. Deloitte’s 3rd Annual Robotics Survey suggested that the implementation of robotic process automation (RPA) in organisations is in the rise.

Robotic Process Automation? What Is It?

Simply known simply as RPA, it is the use of robotics systems on computers or robots to support the processing of data, and thereby, making such data processing more effective.

RPA also comes with programs that prevent the need for human hands or humans to perform rule-based tasks that are mostly repetitive. Thus, RPA also leads to very time-efficient processes. [Read more…] about The Robots Are Here to Stay: How Automation is Affecting Global Business

Opinion: A coronavirus-induced acceleration of robotics and automation is happening in China

July 30, 2020 by Mai Tao

By Gao Feng Advisory

A coronavirus-induced acceleration of robotics and automation appears to be taking place in China. There are a number of forces driving this catalysis in automation technologies.

Firstly, the Chinese government and its policies are playing a central role. This will be particularly reflected in the unprecedented spending on “new infrastructure” as a response to the pandemic.

Secondly, the technologies and related-industries targeted by the government’s new infrastructure agenda are critical components. [Read more…] about Opinion: A coronavirus-induced acceleration of robotics and automation is happening in China
