ABB robots accelerate coronavirus testing in Singapore

November 27, 2020 by Mai Tao

ABB robots are accelerating coronavirus testing in Singapore through a new robotics lab system which “saves time and costs and keeps lab workers safe”, according to the company.

As part of Singapore’s efforts to enhance its nation-wide COVID-19 testing capabilities, ABB’s high-precision robots have been deployed in a new automated laboratory system, known as the Rapid Automated Volume Enhancer (RAVE).

The system automates some of the manual steps usually required in sample processing. Two sets of RAVE and associated equipment can process an industry-topping throughput of close to 4,000 samples a day. RAVE also reduces test contamination and infection risks for laboratory workers. Automated trucks market offers ‘lucrative opportunities’ as investment in automation grows

November 25, 2020 by David Edwards

The innovation in automated trucks has made it possible to transport goods and materials without manual support, according to a new report by Fact.mr. The market itself offers “lucrative opportunities” to companies.

The technology is hailed by the automotive sector since it has helped them in significantly curbing the risk of accidents caused due to negligence. Automated trucks also are considered an environment-friendly option for transporting goods since they use gas and energy in lesser volume.

Fact MR in its recent study has identified it as a thriving market that holds immense potential for growth. [Read more…] about Automated trucks market offers ‘lucrative opportunities’ as investment in automation grows

Robotics market sees accelerated growth amid e-commerce boom

November 12, 2020 by David Edwards

By Steve Richmond, director of logistics systems, Jungheinrich

New use cases for robotics are being identified almost daily. The rapid growth of e-commerce, fuelled in part by necessity from Covid-19 lockdowns, has meant that for many organisations, the requirements for staff and goods is growing at a rate too fast to meet demand – the need for automation is now greater than ever.

With technology advancing rapidly, almost anything can now be automated. And with intelligent navigation and precise picking technology, even items of an odd size, shape or material can be handled by robots.

As this technology becomes increasingly more sophisticated, enabling robots to perform roles with accuracy, consistency and safety front of mind, this has also advanced the ability for robots to communicate with other robots around the facility. Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics partner with Luminar to develop autonomous trucks

November 12, 2020 by David Edwards

Luminar Technologies, an autonomous vehicle sensor and software company, and Daimler Trucks have agreed a strategic partnership to enable highly automated – or autonomous – trucking, starting on highways.

Experts at Daimler Trucks, its US subsidiary, Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) and Torc Robotics, part of Daimler Trucks’ Autonomous Technology Group, with the experts at Luminar are collaboratively pursuing a common goal of bringing series-produced highly automated trucks (SAE Level 4) to roads globally.

The teams will work closely together in order to enhance lidar sensing, perception, and system-level performance for Daimler trucks moving at highway speeds. To strengthen the partnership, Daimler Trucks has acquired a minority stake in Luminar. [Read more…] about Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics partner with Luminar to develop autonomous trucks

Trumpf enters the world of automated arc welding

November 11, 2020 by Sam Francis

Industrial machine tools company Trumpf has released its first automated arc welding system. The TruArc Weld 1000 comes with a collaborative robot, also known as a “cobot”. After the operator has manually guided it over a component, the cobot then automatically carries out the weld.

It is significantly more efficient than would be possible manually. With the new system, Trumpf says it is responding to the increasing lack of skilled workers and helps fabricators get started with automated welding. CE-compliant and approved by TÜV Austria, the TruArc Weld 1000 “meets the very highest safety standards”. [Read more…] about Trumpf enters the world of automated arc welding
