World’s largest chipmaker TSMC to build $12 billion facility in the US

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has unveiled plans to invest $12 billion in Phoenix, Arizona – building an advanced semiconductor manufacturing fabrication.

In December 2022, the company announced its commitment to build a second fab in Phoenix, increasing its total investment to $40 billion.

Then in April 2024, the US Department of Commerce and TSMC Arizona announced up to $6.6 billion in direct funding under the CHIPS and Science Act, fulfilling a goal to bring the most advanced chip manufacturing in the world to the United States. May Mobility launches first driverless transit service in Arizona

May Mobility, a developer of autonomous vehicle technology, has launched the company’s first driverless service for riders on public roads in Sun City, Arizona.

May Mobility’s rider-only vehicles, which leverage its proprietary Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology, will operate daily during the week without an operator sitting in the driver’s seat.

May Mobility launches Arizona’s ‘first’ on-demand autonomous public transit service for 55+ community

May Mobility, a developer of autonomous vehicle technology, has launched what it claims is “the first on-demand public transit service using autonomous vehicles in Arizona”.

The service has been launched in the retirement community of Sun City. The service will be powered by Via, a specialist in transit technology.

The goal of the deployment is to use autonomous vehicles to expand access to safe, reliable and equitable on-demand transportation to Sun City, a community designed for adults 55 and older. Starship Technologies launches robot delivery service at Dallas university

Starship Technologies has rolled out its robot food delivery service at SMU, a Dallas-based private university.

Starship’s fleet of 16 autonomous, on-demand robots will deliver from 10 campus eateries.

The University’s students, faculty and staff can now use the Starship Food Delivery app (iOS and Android) to order food and drinks from Cinco Taco, Einstein Bros Bagels, Lawyers Inn, Mac’s Place, Panera Bread, Rollin’ & Bowlin’ Acai Bowls, Starbucks, Sushic, and The Market to be delivered anywhere on campus, within minutes. NASA awards Geisel Software and Arizona State University swarm robotics contract

Geisel Software, a Massachusetts-based custom software development firm, and Arizona State University are pleased to announce they have been awarded a Small Business Technology Transfer contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Phase I will focus on identifying and developing intent estimation and intent-expressive motion planning technologies that enable cooperative operation of low-cardinality swarms of space vehicles (for example, planetary rovers and flyers) in lunar and planetary exploration missions.

US Postal Service testing driverless trucks from TuSimple

The US Postal Service is testing driverless trucks from TuSimple in a two-week pilot program.

TuSimple, a self-driving truck company, says the USPS has awarded it a contract to perform five round trips during the trial, hauling USPS trailers more than 1,000 miles between the Postal Service’s Phoenix, Arizona and Dallas, Texas distribution centers.
