World’s largest chipmaker TSMC to build $12 billion facility in the US

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has unveiled plans to invest $12 billion in Phoenix, Arizona – building an advanced semiconductor manufacturing fabrication.

In December 2022, the company announced its commitment to build a second fab in Phoenix, increasing its total investment to $40 billion.

Then in April 2024, the US Department of Commerce and TSMC Arizona announced up to $6.6 billion in direct funding under the CHIPS and Science Act, fulfilling a goal to bring the most advanced chip manufacturing in the world to the United States. Yaskawa and Phoenix Contact partner to develop new PLC platform

Yaskawa, a manufacturer of motion control, robotics, and variable speed drives, and Phoenix Contact, a manufacturer of automation solutions, have agreed a partnership to develop a new programmable logic controller platform.

The companies say they will utilize PLCnext Technology from Phoenix Contact in the development of the “next generation machine controller and PLC platform”, realizing the i3-Mechatronics solution concept lead by Yaskawa.

The common goal of both companies is to offer an open and future-proof ecosystem for industrial automation. In this context, Phoenix Contact has licensed its PLCnext runtime environment to Yaskawa and agrees on further joint developments. MineWare brings artificial intelligence to drilling holes in the ground

Mining equipment monitoring and automation solutions provider MineWare has developed the mining industry’s first AI-based drill automation platform, Phoenix AI, to optimize aftermarket blasthole drill operations.

Phoenix AI product manager Curtis Stacy says the intuitive, interoperable platform features an advanced layer of AI to mitigate common drilling faults and improve performance.

“Compatible with all blasthole drill makes and models, Phoenix AI is an independent system that allows machine operators to automate their entire drill cycle at the push of a single button, without compromising the OEM control system,” he says. Hitachi wins lift order in Hyderabad, India

Hitachi has been awarded a contract to supply 106 lifts for large-scale office buildings to be constructed in Hyderabad, a major city in South India. This is the largest order for Hitachi group’s lifts and escalators in India.

Hitachi Building Systems and Hitachi Lift India will deliver 72 lifts for the large-scale building complex Phoenix Spaces 285, located in a suburb of Hyderabad’s financial district and scheduled for completion in February 2020.

Hitachi Lift India will also deliver 34 lifts for Phoenix Aquilia, an office building located in the centre of Hyderabad’s financial district, which is scheduled to be completed in December 2019.
