Heraeus inaugurates new facility in China

November 29, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Heraeus Electronics Technology – a Germany-headquartered company specializing in the production of electronics components and special materials – has officially started operations at the Changshu New & Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (CNZ), Jiangsu Province.

Heraeus produces electronics materials such as metal ceramic substrates, serves high-quality development in fields like electric vehicles and new energies, and says it “supports China in achieving the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality”.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new facility, Jan Rinnert, chairman and CEO of Heraeus Group, said: “Today marks a significant further expansion of our presence and coincides with the 50th anniversary of Heraeus in China.

The Dark Side of Bad SaaS Design

November 28, 2024 by Mark Allinson

The development of digital technologies has radically changed approaches to business process organization. Cloud solutions and software as a service (SaaS) have become integral parts of the working ecosystems of companies of various sizes and profiles.

Interface quality is becoming a key factor of product success in the context of fierce competition and ever-increasing user expectations. Bad SaaS design can become a critical barrier between user and functionality, turning even the most innovative solutions into a source of constant stress and loss of productivity.

User experience determines a product’s usability and overall perceived value. The slightest UX miscalculations can instantly reduce user loyalty and lead to customer churn.

PCBWay launches mechanical and electronics design competitions

November 26, 2024 by Mark Allinson

PCBWay launches 7th electronics project design contest

Some people believe that the printed circuit board, or PCB, is one of the most important inventions – if not the most important invention – ever.

The man credited with the invention of the first PCB is Paul Eisler, who is said to have sold the rights for £1 – that’s one English pound – at the end of the 1930s.

Eisler did negotiate a minority stake in a company called Technograph through the sale, but if he had negotiated a single penny for every PCB sold, it probably would have generated more money for a single product in history. PCBWay now offers multi-colored printed circuit boards

November 26, 2024 by David Edwards

PCBWay now offers designers the chance to print any color image on the PCB they design

Printed circuit boards are often overlooked by the very consumers they work so hard to serve, and that’s fine because they are not meant to stand out – in fact, they are usually hidden away inside the device somewhere. PCBs provide essential functionality to the device they are embedded into. Therefore, they tend to be whatever colors the PCB manufacturer offers.

And until now, the overwhelming majority of PCBs have been green in colour. That is because of the solder mask – almost every manufacturer uses the green standard solder mask.

The main reason is that green is thought to be be the most functional color: you can have white text on it and it will show up well, while still protecting the circuits underneath.
