EPHJ: Microtechnology event keeps it simple while using a complicated name

It might have an inexplicably complex name, but the EPHJ-EPMT-SMT event, which just got under way today in Geneva, is a trade show about what is, arguably, one of the simplest forms of technology.

By “simplest”, I mean it’s about mechanical technology – gears, springs, and so on – almost exclusively, with computer technology playing a very small part, if at all. And it’s all about small-scale.

Certainly the watchmaking aspect of the show is almost entirely about mechanical timepieces. The jewellery-making strand also features mechanised equipment. And the medical technology side, while requiring computing in some areas, is also mostly about mechanical equipment. Kistler to demonstrate robotic measurement solutions at Automate event

The increasing network of machines and systems driven by Industry 4.0 calls for efficient and flexible industrial manufacturing solutions. Individual production processes have to be optimized consistently and continuously to remain competitive in the long run.

Automatica is probably the world’s largest trade event for the automation industry.

Held every two years in Munich, Germany, the show attracts approximately 50,000 visitors from 100 countries, and about almost 1,000 exhibitors from nearly 50 countries.

30 industrial robot manufacturers to watch

2018 looks all set to be a bumper year for sales of industrial robot arms across all categories – from the large, heavyweight class right down to the small desktop variety. 

With established robot makers expanding their range, and with new startups launching innovative new models, the market is more dynamic than ever.
