Double-speed SCARA hits the US market

TM Robotics is launching Toshiba Machine’s THE600 SCARA robot to the North American market at Automate 2019, held at McCormick Place, Chicago, from April 8–11, 2019.

At the region’s largest automation technology showcase, TM Robotics will showcase Toshiba Machine’s latest robots. Demonstrations include models from the SCARA and six-axis range, as well as a robot programming tool, TSAssist.

The THE600 is the latest addition to Toshiba Machine’s range and builds upon the established specifications of the THE400.

Johnson Controls and Toshiba partner on dual batteries for cars

Johnson Controls Power Solutions and Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation have partnered to deliver low-voltage lithium-ion solutions to meet automaker demands for improved efficiency, lower costs and less complexity.

Under the agreement, Johnson Controls will collaborate with Toshiba to develop and manufacture lithium-ion batteries at its Holland, MI, plant and pair them with existing lead-acid battery technology as part of dual-battery systems.

Dual-battery vehicles are expected to be the fastest-growing form of electrification and by 2025 will account for approximately 20 percent of new vehicles built globally, according to IHS, Markit.

Sharp in talks to buy Toshiba’s computer business

Sharp is in talks to buy Toshiba’s personal computer business, according to a report on the Reuters website. 

Sharp is owned by Foxconn, which is the main contract manufacturer to, and makes iPhones and iPads for, Apple.

Toshiba and Nebbiolo sign an industrial IoT partnership deal

Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation (Toshiba) and Nebbiolo Technologies Inc. (Nebbiolo) have signed a strategic partnership agreement to deploy industrial IoT solutions using fog computing technology.

As strategic partners, a complete suite of infrastructure products will be developed, driving new business supporting industrial IoT architecture and specifications.

The partnership establishes a large-scale initiative in the factory IoT domain to address modernizing the ageing fleet of hardware and software currently deployed on industrial automation floors using a virtualized fog platform.

Toshiba launches new robot in Chinese market

Toshiba Machine Co., Ltd.  has launched sales of its new THE400, a THL series SCARA robot, for the Chinese market.

The THE400 model is a high-rigidity SCARA robot which is said to feature the high responsiveness and high tracking accuracy needed in 3C (Computers, Consumer Electronics, and Communication) industries.

The THE400 model uses an all-new mechanical system design and control functions to provide accurate movement tracking combined with high-speed operation and high payload capacity, says the company. The cycle time reaches 0.3 sec (for 2 kg payload) for enabling operations, which is 19% faster than the previous model.

2018 looks all set to be a bumper year for sales of industrial robot arms across all categories – from the large, heavyweight class right down to the small desktop variety. 

With established robot makers expanding their range, and with new startups launching innovative new models, the market is more dynamic than ever.

Toshiba launches three new industrial robots aimed at automated picking applications

Toshiba Machine has launched three new industrial robots.

The three new models are part of the company’s TVM series of vertically articulated robots, and all have “high cost performance and reliability”, says Toshiba.
