Faraday Future holds its first global supplier summit

Faraday Future (FF) has held its first Global Supplier Summit at its headquarters in Gardena, California.

Nearly 200 representatives from more than 100 of its global suppliers joined the two-day event in February, a crucial gateway to achieving the first delivery of its flagship FF 91 vehicle by the end of 2018.

YT Jia, founder of FF, welcomed the participants and delivered an inspirational address to motivate the crowd at the event.

Infineon and Elektrobit team up to improve car data security

Infineon Technologies AG and Elektrobit Automotive GmbH are teaming up long term to work closely together on the issue of cybersecurity for vehicles.

The companies are offering a hardware-software solution that is said to boost the performance of on-board communication and satisfies current and future security requirements.

It is based on the second generation of the multicore microcontroller family AURIX™ (TC3xx) from Infineon and, tailored to it, Elektrobit’s zentur HSM solution.

Trimble’s GNSS positioning helps bring Super Cruise to the road

General Motors’ is using Trimble RTX (Real-Time eXtended) technology as the GNSS/GPS correction source to deliver absolute positioning to vehicles equipped with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system, now available on the 2018 Cadillac CT6.

Super Cruise featuring Trimble RTX technology plays an important role in maintaining lane position for hands-free driving on divided highways.

Trimble has a long history of pioneering automation and vehicle autonomy to improve productivity—from providing positioning solutions for some of the earliest robotic applications in the 1990s to delivering automated steering for farm tractors, automated blade control for earthmoving equipment and providing advanced positioning technology for fully autonomous trucks.

Material handling equipment supplier Nitco opens expanded facility in New Hampshire

Material handling equipment supplier North Industrial Truck Company has opened a new and expanded facility in Concord, New Hampshire. 

The new site is designed to showcase the company’s forklifts, construction equipment, warehouse solutions, and other products.

Chinese more trusting of autonomous cars, says survey

A survey conducted among more than 1,000 licensed drivers aged 18 years and above each in China, Germany, and the United States reveals that trust in technology of completely autonomous cars is nearly twice as high in China as the other two countries.

TUV Rheinland, an international testing service provider for quality and safety, carried out the global survey designed to assess consumer perception of safety of autonomous vehicles in different regions.

More than 63 percent of respondents in China believe driverless cars will increase road safety, while the figure is 34 percent in the United States and Germany.

Alstom to supply traction and signalling systems for driverless metro line in China

Alstom and its joint-venture companies in China, SATEE and CASCO, are to supply traction systems for 200 metro cars and the CBTC signalling system for the Chengdu metro line 9 phase one, the Chinese city’s first driverless metro line.

The line, expected to go into service by the end of 2020, will be 22km long and have 11 stations. It will connect the city’s business area in the southwest with the West Railway station in the northwest.

Alstom will be supplying its OptONIX metro traction system, specifically designed and developed for the Chinese market, and its Urbalis signalling system, a service-proven solution already ordered by 54 metro lines in China, 32 of which are in operation.

Eltec Elektronik launches wireless router for trains and buses

Eltec Elektronik is expanding its wireless routers family through the addition of the CyBox GW-P, which combines the functions of a Wi-Fi access point and a communication server in one compact system solution. The CyBox GW-P was developed specifically for deployment in trains and buses.

Thanks to the bundling of up to four LTE channels and data speeds of 600 Mbit/s (downloads) and 200 Mbit/s (uploads), the CyBox GW-P supports broadband vehicle-land data sharing communications.

A Wave 2 module provides data speeds of up to 1.7 Gbit/s and 4×4 MIMO as well as two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for local communication.

Nuro raises $92 million to develop autonomous delivery vehicle

A company called Nuro has raised a massive $92 million to develop its autonomous delivery vehicle for commercial applications.

Speaking to IEEE Spectrum, co-founder says the company’s vehicle is “poised to change the way that businesses interact with their local customers”.
