How Smart Bending and Cutting Systems Are Powering the Next Wave of Industrial Robotics

July 15, 2025 by David Edwards

In the race toward smarter factories, metal cutting and bending machines aren’t just keeping up – they’re leading the charge. As industrial robotics evolves under the banner of Industry 4.0, manufacturers are rethinking how human-machine collaboration should look on the factory floor.

Increasing demand for high-mix, low-volume production has pushed traditional systems to their limits. Enter smart cutting and bending systems: the silent but powerful drivers of robotic precision and scalable automation.

These machines are no longer isolated workhorses – they’re deeply networked, responsive, and central to the synergy between automation and robotics in modern manufacturing. [Read more…] about How Smart Bending and Cutting Systems Are Powering the Next Wave of Industrial Robotics

Clean Cuts, Smarter Builds: How Laser Cutting Enhances Robotics and Automation

July 14, 2025 by David Edwards

Robotics and automation are only as precise as the tools that support them. As factories become smarter and systems more integrated, the need for ultra-accurate components continues to grow.

That’s where laser cutting steps in – not just as a tool, but as a foundational part of modern fabrication. Whether it’s shaping the housing of a robotic arm or customizing parts for industrial machines, laser cutting delivers speed, precision, and adaptability in ways that traditional methods often can’t match. Appetronix unveils new fully autonomous fast-food restaurant design concepts

June 19, 2025 by Sam Francis

Appetronix, a developer of food robotics, has unveiled new design concepts for its fully-autonomous kitchen platform, saying they redefine how fast-food or “quick-service restaurants” (QSRs) operate at scale.

Following the successful launch last week of a fully-autonomous kitchen for Donatos Pizza in Columbus, Ohio, Appetronix is now actively developing two new robotic cuisine verticals: Asian and Mexican.

The company says the initiative further demonstrated its capability to “serve diverse food categories with exceptional quality, speed, consistency, and zero human intervention”.  [Read more…] about Appetronix unveils new fully autonomous fast-food restaurant design concepts

When wheels won’t do: Humanoid robots for human-centric spaces

June 17, 2025 by Sam Francis

By Nicolas Lehment, senior principal system architect, NXP Semiconductors

Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and wheeled mobile robots currently dominate factories and warehouses, following magnetic stripes or optical markers permanently embedded in warehouse flooring to navigate routes.

As requirements evolve, however, wheels are simply not enough. Demand is growing for machines capable of navigating more challenging, human-centric environments, such as hospitals, restaurants, homes, and even rugged outdoor terrain.

In such environments, perfectly flat floors, free from steps and stairs, along with conspicuous, clutter-free aisles, are luxuries. [Read more…] about When wheels won’t do: Humanoid robots for human-centric spaces
