German startup eternal.ag launches fully autonomous harvesting robot to tackle greenhouse labor shortage

March 19, 2026 by Sam Francis

Eternal.ag, a German agritech startup, has launched its first commercial product, Harvester. Harvester is a fully autonomous harvesting robot designed for tomato greenhouses and offers a solution to widespread industry labor shortages.

Greenhouses are increasingly essential for securing the year-round supply of fresh fruit and vegetables, being far more resilient to seasonal weather, climate change, land shortages and pests than outdoor farming.

However, greenhouse labor availability is falling rapidly – in Europe, by as much as 30 percent since 2010 – and forecasts say this trend will continue, leaving growers with structural staffing shortages. Robotic seafood company Shinkei Systems acquires first processing plant to scale nationwide

March 11, 2026 by David Edwards

Shinkei Systems, the seafood robotics company behind Seremoni Grade fish, announced it has purchased a 16,000-square-foot processing plant in Tacoma, Washington.

The Seremoni Grade Plant more than doubles Shinkei’s total footprint and represents a major milestone in the company’s mission to deliver Michelin-quality fish for all.

Situated in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, the plant provides a strategic hub for the West Coast seafood industry with direct proximity to key regional fisheries. [Read more…] about Robotic seafood company Shinkei Systems acquires first processing plant to scale nationwide

Carbon Robotics launches the world’s first-ever large plant model

February 3, 2026 by Sam Francis

Carbon Robotics, a provider of agriculture AI and robotics, says it has achieved a “major breakthrough” for global agriculture with the launch of “the world’s first Large Plant Model (LPM) – the most advanced AI model for plant detection and identification”.

Trained on the largest, most diverse, and fastest growing agricultural dataset ever built with 150 million labeled plants, the LPM enables farmers to start laser weeding any field or crop in minutes.

New capabilities make it simple and fast to personalize the LPM for each farmer’s unique field and crop conditions and update model behavior in real-time. [Read more…] about Carbon Robotics launches the world’s first-ever large plant model

4XRobots expands into US market with focus on greenhouse automation

January 31, 2026 by Sam Francis

Danish robotics company 4XRobots is expanding its presence in the United States as it looks to scale automation in commercial greenhouse operations across North America.

The company has appointed Nick Chambers as head of global market development and insight to lead the expansion and has joined the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), a move aimed at building partnerships with North American robotics integrators, suppliers and technology partners.

4XRobots develops collaborative Delta robots designed specifically for controlled-environment agriculture, including greenhouses, where space is limited and layouts are difficult to redesign. [Read more…] about 4XRobots expands into US market with focus on greenhouse automation

How AI and Robotics Are Redefining Precision Feed Management in Large-Scale Livestock Farms

January 14, 2026 by Sam Francis

In large livestock operations, precision feed management starts with one simple requirement: knowing exactly how much feed is moving through the system.

That is why load cells sit at the center of modern feeding technology. They provide the hard weight data that AI software and robotic feeders depend on to make real decisions.

Mounted under silos, hoppers, and automated dispensers, load cells measure feed depletion in real time. Every kilogram leaving the system is recorded. [Read more…] about How AI and Robotics Are Redefining Precision Feed Management in Large-Scale Livestock Farms

Autonomous systems in mining and agriculture vehicles

January 9, 2026 by Sam Francis

Heavy-duty autonomy in controlled, off-road environments delivers efficiency and safety gains

Autonomous vehicles are still most commonly associated with passenger cars and urban roads. Yet the most mature, commercially proven forms of vehicle autonomy have emerged far from city streets.

They operate in open-pit mines, on remote haul roads, and across agricultural fields – environments where routes are known, traffic is controlled, and the economics of automation are clear.

Mining and agriculture have quietly become the longest-running success stories in vehicle autonomy. These sectors demonstrate what autonomy looks like when expectations are pragmatic, deployment is incremental, and safety and productivity are the primary objectives. NitroScope project launches in Ghent to map and manage Europe’s farm nitrogen flows

November 24, 2025 by David Edwards

Nitrogen is a cornerstone of agricultural productivity, yet its excessive use continues to harm soil health, water quality, and climate. To address this challenge, the NitroScope project officially kicked off with a two-day meeting at Ghent University.

The project aims to advance the quantification, management, and conservation of nitrogen fluxes across Europe, helping farmers and policymakers adopt more sustainable practices.

Achieving climate neutrality by 2050 is a central goal of the European Green Deal. However, soil-derived gaseous nitrogen emissions from agriculture are often overlooked due to challenges in monitoring.
