hannover messe 6

Make digital transformation tangible – that was what organizers of the Hannover Messe 2019 promised. And, as the five-day event comes to a close, they announced a positive result.

Artificial intelligence in industry and robotics, the potential of the new 5G mobile communications standard for industrial applications, lightweight design, and the future of work in a time of increasing digitalization were this year’s most important topics at the world’s leading tradeshow for industrial technology.

“Hannover Messe 2019 showed that it is the world’s most important platform for all technologies related to industrial transformation,” said Dr Jochen Köckler, chairman of Deutsche Messe. “More than 215,000 visitors used Hannover Messe to invest in new technologies and prepare their businesses for the future.  [Read more…] about Hannover Messe 2019: Driving industrial transformation

OnRobot, a maker of end-of-arm tooling for collaborative robots, is celebrating two prestigious wins as the company’s “lizard-inspired” Gecko Gripper was awarded silver at Edison Awards Gala held Thursday, April 4, 2019, in New York City.

The win comes hot on the heels of the Gecko Gripper winning the Robotics Award at the Hannover Messe in Germany two days earlier.

OnRobot says its gripper is set to “revolutionise manufacturing” because of its ability to attach and lift any kind of flat and smooth surfaces without costly compressed air or external power, using easy gripping technology for pick and place applications.  [Read more…] about OnRobot wins two prestigious awards for its ‘Gecko Gripper’

IRENA renewables Capacity Growth copy

Clean energy from sources such as solar, wind, and others now accounts for a third of global power capacity, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency.

The decade-long trend of strong growth in renewable energy capacity continued in 2018 with global additions of 171 gigawatts, according to new data released by Irena.

The annual increase of 7.9 percent was bolstered by new additions from solar and wind energy, which accounted for 84 percent of the growth. “A third of global power capacity is now based on renewable energy,” says Irena.  [Read more…] about Renewable energy now accounts for a third of global power capacity, says Irena

Brain Corp, a San Diego-based artificial intelligence company specializing in robotics, has launched a new delivery robot which it calls “AutoDelivery”. (See video below.)

AutoDelivery appears to be designed to operate within warehouses and stores, or facilities where it will generally be alongside human staff, rather than make deliveries to consumers’ addresses.

The proof-of-concept robot is powered by BrainOS, the company’s commercial operating system for the production, installation, and support of autonomous mobile robots, or AMRs.

BrainOS currently powers multiple machines within the robotic floor care industry, including those made by Tennant, Minuteman, ICE, and SoftBank Robotics.  [Read more…] about Brain Corp debuts autonomous supply chain robot
