Automatic Automotives: Why Newer Tech Parts Cost More to Repair and Replace

February 16, 2022 by David Edwards

Cars have gradually become more complex over the years. The newest models contain tech parts all over the place. Some items keep systems functioning correctly. For instance, engines/exhausts now sport sensors that relay messages to onboard computers.

They are configured to ensure the motor runs nice and smoothly. But if these pieces malfunction, you’ll probably know it. That’s because symptoms like black/white smoke escaping the exhaust, poor gas mileage, or a rough idle could present themselves.

Meanwhile, you’ll find tech parts advertising driver-assist and safety features. They tell people when to correct their driving or automatically make adjustments to prevent accidents. What about that infotainment system with the touchscreen on the dash? [Read more…] about Automatic Automotives: Why Newer Tech Parts Cost More to Repair and Replace

Ocean engineers optimize design and performance of autonomous underwater vehicle

September 1, 2021 by David Edwards

Almost two years ago, Dive Technologies, a subsea robotics designer and manufacturer based in Boston, began a multiyear partnership with researchers and students at the Center for Marine Autonomy and Robotics to develop a novel commercial autonomous underwater vehicle.

In April 2021, Dive Technologies delivered the DIVE-LD to market, a design they see as the most capable large-displacement autonomous underwater vehicle, in terms of the reliability, endurance, and navigational accuracy it brings to global commercial and defense customers.

With the first round of sea trials of their craft complete, the DIVE-LD’s performance has already exceeded expectations, but the team behind the self-propelled, unmanned, untethered underwater vehicle is driven to take it even further. They’re now back in the lab, working diligently to refine the vehicle’s software systems and optimize hydrodynamic performance.
